OK, I believe I'm sold on the R-D1

Lurking on this forum has convinced me. I was going to wait and see if somebody puts out a cheaper (than Leica I mean) M-mount digital in the next year, but forget it. Recently I pretty much finalized (well--not finalized, but you know what I mean) my SLR rig--I'm using Pentax for both digital and film, and it's a cinch to switch between film and digi with all my favorite lenses. It's such a pleasure, and I'd love to have the same pleasure with my M and LTM rig. I shoot film on a Bessa, so the R-D1 should feel fine, and I see nothing wrong with the image size and resolution the 6mp sensor appears to offer. If Steve's Camera is serious about maintaining these things for a while, I don't see many disadvantages.

If anyone is getting rid of one, I'm your man.
 
Looks like there are a few on eBay now in varied condition.
I'll probably be offering a nice R-D1s in the classifieds here next week...
 
I have a back-up R-D1 which I've never had to use as a backup. I would be willing to part with it. Send me a PM if interested.

Just to clarify I was talking about looking at the ebay example from the posted address, the covering looks poorly attached on the front. I have one on ebay also and the covering does not look "as new" but the pictures are very clear so the buyer can see this is obvious. Bob.
 
Mabel, I think you're waiting for the prices to drop and they most likely will but they will do so very slowly, I love using my R-D1 every day and I wouldn't want to wait too long to get one if mine disappeared. You're missing out on a lot of pleasure, checking the sharpness, bokeh, etc. from your great prime lenses. Not to mention the very nice to work with epson raw software, it is plain and simple and perfect for the pics the camera produces. Go get one! Bob.

Seriously, I HAVE been bidding on a few on eBay and Bob's right, I'm waiting for a good price...I was going to buy the one he has on eBay in fact, but I can't get the Microsoft discount thingy to work. And the previous two in the classifieds before Bob's were, I believe, low-post-count people I didn't know. I was just being cautious...

Anyway, I will struggle against the Pixtu Stare and PM you, Tuolumne... ;)
 
BTW Morgan at Cameraleather told me whoever sends him an R-D1 for a cover, he will then create the template for it for others. FYI.

I would like new leather for my R-D1, but I think the reason no one has sent him one is that no one wants to risk having the RF knocked out of alignment on the camera's round trip journey. :)

I dropped my R-D1 down a mountain trail this summer and it was still working fine. Be a risk taker.
