guinea pigs...

Remember the other day I mentioned double-sided adhesive? Well, tonight I've tried my recycled release paper, and it seems to work fine for what I need. So, I would like to see if we have 5 people in the audience who would be interested in evaluating this. You'll get two pieces...one is apx 5.5" x 4" and the other is apx 6" x 4". I'm not concerned about the quality of the adhesive. I've used it for many years, and I'm very happy with it. Here is what I want you to tell me:

1. Did you receive it in good shape? If not, what could be done to improve delivery? I.e, did it get damaged, was it rendered unuseful, etc?
2. Is it something you think would be useful enough to buy, and would you buy it?
3. How much of this do you think you'd want to buy at one time? One sheet or two? Or should there be a small and a large set?
4. What do you think a reasonable price would be?
5. Would the 5.5" piece work well enough for you, or do you think you need the extra 1/2 inch?
6. Suggestions for camera use, and do you think I need to prepare a sheet of suggestions, instructions, etc?

The pieces you receive won't be exactly measured. At this point, there are still about 100 things I have to think about, fiddle with, etc before I finish refining the cutting process (dealing with something this sticky is a challenge). I'm also working on the economic side. The fewer frictional costs (E-Bay fees, shipping, etc), the better for everybody.
Anybody interested? It doesn't matter if you're in the USA or not...in fact, I'm going to say I want at least one person in another country to see how it makes a trip. I'll mail tomorrow to the first 5 people who PM me their address.

Jon, Just recieved the pakage yesterday. Friday 22nd April.
Have attached photo of the condition I recieved it in, Not bad at all
slightly creaded in a few corners but not bad.
Your answeres as follows:
1, Contents arrived safe and in useable condition. I would however
suggest a piece of firm card like material be placed in the envelope
to save from possible folding damage in transit.
2, Yes I would find usefull and would consider buying.
3, I would buy varying quantities dependant on need, Sm & Lrg
choise would be usefull, and for me Strips ie, 1-2cm x 10-15cm.
4, Hmm let me come back to you on this one!
5, Size as is is fine.
6, I am sure that there are 101+ uses,

I for one would have liked some of this a few months back.
I, due to work, enviornment, travel etc tend to have a lot of Aluminium/Pelican - trunks/cases and for various instruments & gadgets.
so I spend a bit of time customising the interiors with foam/silicone/rubber
and often use commercial double sided tapes or adheasives.
I also repair/customise/upgrade a lot of computing equipment and there is
a need for this type of material and from what I have infront of me yours is definately preferable.
Anyway I hope this is the kind of response you were after.
Do keep me informed on how you are going to move foreward with this.

Mike.

Hi Jon- I took part in the responses in ypur "guinea pig" post, mainly about writing on the release backing.

Here are my reponses to your questions.

1. Did you receive it in good shape? If not, what could be done to improve delivery? I.e, did it get damaged, was it rendered unuseful, etc?
It arrived in perfect condition and I think it was Tuesday. First class mail for the two sheets in a regular envelope was fine.

2. Is it something you think would be useful enough to buy, and would you buy it?
There are a few uses I can think of here. I would buy it for a reasonable price.

3. How much of this do you think you'd want to buy at one time? One sheet or two? Or should there be a small and a large set?
2 sheets at a time would be great. I think a large set would work for those GSNs and largish japanese RF bods.

4. What do you think a reasonable price would be?
$2.95 for the small, $3.59 for the large?

5. Would the 5.5" piece work well enough for you, or do you think you need the extra 1/2 inch?
I think it needs an extra half inch.

6. Suggestions for camera use, and do you think I need to prepare a sheet of suggestions, instructions, etc?
Camera coverings, adhesive for bottom plate protectors (not sure I would want one that permannet though), cat control...

Intructions would be great for those of us with 10 thumbs.

Thanks Jon!

Thanks again to everybody who participated! Your input has been very helpful. Here's what I've decided: For international shipments, I'll probably try to use a piece of cardstock for stiffness & protection. It will add a few cents, but will probably be worth it since those get bounced around more. For US mailing, regular old first class will do fine. I've decided to initially offer 2 pieces 6" x 4", and consider a larger kit later (if needed). I'm still wrestling with the cost...cost accounting being something I still struggle with. I'll let you know asap.

Mine arrived today.

1. Did you receive it in good shape? If not, what could be done to improve delivery? I.e, did it get damaged, was it rendered unuseful, etc?
Arrived in excellent condition.

2. Is it something you think would be useful enough to buy, and would you buy it?
I think it is very useful. Yes, I would buy it if it were available.

3. How much of this do you think you'd want to buy at one time? One sheet or two? Or should there be a small and a large set?
Small and large sets would be good. Then if you only needed a small amount then you get the small set, but if you needed more you could get the large without having to get multiple sets.

4. What do you think a reasonable price would be?
Similar price to the seal kits.

5. Would the 5.5" piece work well enough for you, or do you think you need the extra 1/2 inch?
Depends on what I was going to use it for. Sometimes the extra bit helps.

6. Suggestions for camera use, and do you think I need to prepare a sheet of suggestions, instructions, etc?
OK, firstly I tried it to attach some imitation leather to my Mamiya I am recovering. It worked a charm. Customising a camera bag is anothr use (as stated by another tester). Mounting photos in mats for framing. Instruction sheets would be good, and a suggestion sheet would also be benificial, but not a must have.

Thank you for accepting me in youe testing team. Please consider me again for any future endeavours.
