Old, Genuine Leica-Adapters That Can Be Very Useful Even Today …

A couple of days ago, I've mentioned Leica's recent adapter 14624, and its older sibling 22228: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2648917&highlight=14624#post2648917

IIRC, a couple of years ago, I've mentioned that there exist at least two more very useful «old» Leica-adapters; originally, they were made for their «LEICINA SPECIAL» (or «Spezial»), probably between 1972 and 1977, but one can use them on a Leica M, too:

Question: Are any other genuine adapters for SLR-lenses to Leica RF-mounts known?

Years ago I had a Nikon-to-Leica-screw adapter made by SRB, now SRB-Griturn, and I still use it occasionally. It wasn't expensive (certainly a lot cheaper than a 22232) and it's built to a very high standard. For an M I just put a screw-to-M adapter on the back.

SRB also do lots of off-the-shelf adapters: http://srb-photographic.co.uk/adaptors-649-c.asp including Novoflex, which while hardly cheap are hardly disastrously expensive either. If you can afford an M-series Leica you can probably afford at least one adapter.

I know, it's VERY confusing because they were offering «Anschlussringe», and «adapters», unfortunately called by the basically same codes. :bang:

The old «Anschlussring» variants are discontinued since decades I guess*, but today they have a lot of true adapters, of course — and since they're probably really made in Germany, they're quite costly:

EDIT: I just learn, not all of the old «Anschlussringe» for M39-bellows etc. are discontinued, but: they call them «Adapterring» today. Well, why not, when the audience is confused anyway? 🙄

Be aware the the old Leicina adapters were made for a smaller film format. Thus they have a relatively narrow throat, and will vignette with some lenses. The Leicina R adapter will also need remachining on the R side to enable mounting of newer R lenses. Better to stick with recent Novoflex adapters.

thank you. I should have stated previously that I use aforementioned old genuine Leica adapters mostly with non-retrofocus* wides (e.g. the very nice Minolta MC 21mm f/4 Rokkor-QH), and in these cases the problems you mentioned don't play any role — but you're absolutely right of course, that particularly ROM-only-lenses are tricky. But OTOH, there's no ROM-only-non-retrofocus* wide, AFAIK 😉

* doesn't there exist a better term than «non-retrofocus»? Awkward semantics …
