Old Minolta SCSI scanners on Windows 7, via USB to SCSI?

Hello,

My dad has just got back into photography, so I thought I'd pick him up an old SCSI film scanner, as you can get them extremely cheap. Then he can upgrade to a better one sometime if he feels the need.

I've heard of workarounds for Windows 7, with updated drivers etc, but the question is can they operate on a laptop with a USB to SCSI adapter? Or do they have to use a real SCSI card?

Most of the time, youneed a real scsi card. I tried with minolta f2900 and even with usb to scsi converter, did not work. Money and time is better spent on usb film scanners. Plustek 7600i would be a good start.

I second that the adapters are not worth it. Snag an Adaptec 2930 on EBay; there are unofficial Windows 7 drivers for it and Vuescan should recognize the scanner.

Thanks for the quick replies, I had a feeling that might be the case. I'll buy him a Plustek, or let him use one of my scanners until he finds what he wants.

If you have a PCMCIA cardbus slot you can get a SCSI adapter to fit into the cardbus and it will work just fine.
