well i just acquired one of these, and as far as cosmetics go i cant believe the shape it is in, but mechanically... i dont think its working too well. the shutter is stuck. im going to take it to my repairman .. it makes a nice centerpiece for right now lol.

anyone know how to fix these? i got it for free, so i dont want to spend too much on repair. it sure looks pretty though.

Nearly all RDs need a CLA for the reasons indicated: oily blades. Camtech can do a complete CLA.

What I don't understand, though, is why you wouldn't want to spend much time (or money?) having this beauty brought back to life. First of all, they're great shooters, with a superb lens. Secondly, it's in beautiful cosmetic condtion and ... YOU GOT IT FOR FREE!!! If you'd bought one on oBoy you'd be out that cost (they're not usually cheap there) PLUS the CLA.

So think of a repair/CLA as the least expensive way to get a gorgeous RD that works perfectly. If you don't want it, send it to me, I'll have it CLAed AND maybe even put spiffy new leather on it.

Getting the RD back into shape is not a do-it-yourself type job. That grease that sticks the blades together resists all of the normal quick-fixes.

I second Trius' advice to send it to CamTech. For $99, John Hermanson will overhaul it, clean the shutters, clean it up and adjust the meter to work with modern batteries. Well worth the money seeing as how you could turn around and sell it on ebay for $200 the day you get it back from him. (http://www.zuiko.com)

wow i had no idea guys, i knew it looked awesome, and i was pretty impressed with the lens, it wasnt that i didnt WANT to, it was moreso if i can have the funding to do so. but i think i can manage $100. my dad's friend had found it in his closet of stuff and asked me if i wanted it, so i said "of course i do!" and in playing with it ive noticed it is in dior need of a full CLA. thanks for the advice guys! (i may in the future end up selling it, but for now i just want to make it work so i can use it! )

well my little baby is in the process of being CLA'd by our very own g'man, even he said "Wow! this is one clean oly!" and that was before he took it apart ;) now itll be a really clean and really well working oly!

thanks gman!!

oh my god how awesome would that be? ladybug leather. i can see it now.

what about tiger stripes? full on safari style! haha. thats for another day,

i wonder if i can get it painted olive. hmm. but i bet a black one with olive leather would look gorgeous.

Lately I purchased from ebay a pair of RCs to go along with my SP and RD. Out of the blue, at the local Israeli customs I had to pay another 20% of total price including postage, and it came out that one of the RCs was not working. Therefore I had to pay some additional repair at $80. Was it worth? After my first roll came out my answer is: Absolutely! extraordinary lens!

Cheers,
Ruben

PS: The lens of the RD are even better.

im so anxious and excited to use it, i wanna find one of those generic vented lens hoods for it.

oh and i saw the ladybug, and i was laughing so hard it made me cry. i still think a black RD w/ safari leather, or olive leather would be amazing,

His RD is really sharp looking. There was a couple of tiny areas of paint loss. Now gone.:)
That 1.7 lens looks like it will perform. I'll see when I do the test roll.
And now it will use regular batteries. :)
GMan: Can you do an RC and straighten out a dented filter ring?

My little olympus 35 rd has been beautifully restored by gman, everything works as it should now, and it looks even better than when i sent it to him.
