OLY 35SP / new user...

Hey Guys,

I'm in the 35SP club too now 😉

Can one tell by the serial number when any specific 35SP was build (just like with the Zorki-ones)?

Oh and I paid 60 euro for it.

I am always pondering that the PO was a pedophile and the police will be waiting at the processor for me when I go to pick up the "mystery" prints.

Nice catch on the camera. You bought it for about 2-3% of the going price. Hope you luck out on the meter/spot meter when you get a battery, but it's a great manual camera in any event.
 
There is a working battery in it, I hope the camerashop owner put it in there. Which would mean that he has those batteries in stock.

Guess I have to wait for the first roll of film 🙂
 
I've used the 35SP for a couple of days now and I really had to get used to it. It felt like I had to use more power to press the shutterrelease (in comparison to my Bessa R), so I guess I moved the camera downwards while I pushed the shutterrelease.

I wonder if there is a grip for the 35SP...

Well, we'll see in a few days 😉

in the kitchen, low light, but with Canon EX420 flash attached (bounced). Lighting worked rather nice. The Canon EX420 has no manual settings...

HI All

I recently got myself an 35SP off eb ($AUS65) but have found the shutter to be sticky with oil visible on it. Sometimes it opens and sometimes not at all. Disappointing but there you go. Is a shutter clean/lub possible on these fellows or is it just too tricky? Nice pictures by the way, I hope I can get some pictures happening on mine at some stage.

I had to have some haze removed from the inside of the lens elements on mine, but otherwise a fine performer in purple snake from Cameraleather.com and a purple softrelease!

Otherwise, there is a reputable US repairer (Hendrikson?) who might be able to help.

It is a capable camera and worth rescuing if economically possible. Perhaps return it to your ebay seller and look for a better one?
 
I actually cleaned my Oly 35 Sp and managed to assemble it again (the post on kyphoto is by me, but now I got ahead)
My only problem still is the little spring I mentioned in that post!
I shot a roll with the camera before I cleaned it (with a lot of dirt in the lens) and the pictures were all unsharp. I'm curious how they look now, I'll probably get back my two new rolls n a few days from development.

This seems to be more or less common to RF cameras with AE which are very good, nice, beautiful cameras from other aspects.

That's why Lynxes are one from best FLRF's in that segment. Ooops...I said Lynx, Yashica Lynx ? There should be some Olympus FLRF with smooth release if Oly tab on camera matters!

A camera tech guys told me that the Oly35SP has compensating circuitry that allows you to use a 1.5 volt battery without problems. Does this sound right? I also notice on mine that whenever I press the spot button it gies a reading of about 5EV lower than the normal centreweighted reading (e.g. 13 normal , 7 spot), regardless of light conditions. What do other people experience?

Thanks Zuikologist, in the end I took mine for a CLA and got the shutters cleaned by my tech. Well worth it, $Aus80, also he fixed/adjusted the lightmeter which was way off now spot on. He says these cameras are complicated, highly mechanical and tricky to work on if inexperienced with many adjustments to do. There is a special tool for removing the lens/shutter assembly in one piece. Not a camera to learn on he says. Will post photos the camera takes later on. Thanks again
 
Success! My camera works, although I self-repaired it and a spring lies somewhere on my carpet...
Very bad scanning quality, but, anyway.

Glad to see you got it fixed. What film were you using? Colours look rather similar to mine, and I am king of 'bad scanning' 🙂 I could do with a better scanner...
 
Oh I guess it was the Fuji Superia 200, something you can buy everywhere. I just started to use more specialized film. I recently ordered Kodak Tmax 100 black an white film and can't wait to try. Anyone has a good color film?
