Oly 5050....amazing...

while not doubting the promotion angle, the story goes that oly offered him a whole host of cameras with more features at that time like the e10, etc and he picked the 5050 and 5060 for the assignment. His using an oly is no doubt promotional, but the choice within it was surely his own.

I'm rather worried by all this talk of mechanical failure though. Best get a receipt from the seller for potential warranty claims i guess. My only issue with it at the moment is the protruding lens. I keep forgetting to take the cap off and getting all sorts of errors as a result. Argh....

Recently picked up this ancient legend having been amazed by the works of alex majoli when he was using one (namely his iraq and china photos) and its amazing. Anyhow, just thought i'd share some from my first day with the camera. Would love to see some from you guys as well..... I have no intention to ever enlarge these photos but just use them for web work. This camera sure makes a good walk around cam for under £100.....

Canon cured their lens warnings by making the lens cap on the g4 pop off with the sligtest whim. Better than the blaring beeps and stern angry flashing all caps text warnings of the Oly!
I'm suprised at the used value of these 5050, seems quite high to me, looking at ebay etc.
Seems the bad frindging rep of the G5 has made them cost less used.
one should not be afraid of the G5, despite my mention of the blue fringing--
in practice, it's almost never a bother.. I have to try to force it to happen..
Lens wide open, with either something black against a white sky or vice versa, a lamp against the black night..
Closed down some it goes away.
I mention for people getting a gas attack from this thread, to compare the G5 while shopping..

I didn't have enough time with the 5050 to notice such.

Very easy to address. Buy the extension tube that is designed to mount the accessory lenses. Put it on. Get a new lens cap (43mm instead of 41mm). It will never hit the cap again. 🙂 Even if it powers up by mistake in the bag. Just have to be careful when you take flash pictures.

This was an issue with the entire series (cX0X0). Did I also mention the c5050 takes an external flash via hot shoe (and the C3030 and C4040 do by a special off-camera cord)?

I have my Oly C5050Z sitting on top of my desk at the moment. It definitely is a keeper, only real downside is the battery life (which got me into all manual/all mechanical rangefinders, btw)...especially in winter. Missed great opportunities because of dead batteries (or lack of replacements?). Anyway, if you get one, don't let it go.

i have the tube but it spoils the profile of the camera. Oh well, better that than a wrecked lens i guess. I figure if i go on practicing using iso64 all the time, very soon i'll be ready to shoot provia 100 or even velvia 50 in all conditions....😛

I use ISO 64 at every opportunity, now that I finally bought the tripod (3 years in buying one 😱). Before that, I was amazed by the fast lens (still am). You could take photos freehand at very slow speeds (down to 1/3) and get acceptable results once your hands were firmly braced against your body/whatever. It is a versatile camera not least because of the lens...
