Oly Epic a collector ?

Looking at sold listings on ebay, the Stylus zoom models are all over tha place for price, the Mju/Epic fixed lens modle seem to be anywhere from 150 and up.
lawnpotter, I don't know if the black are more desirable but I think there were fewer made. Having camera, box, papers is definitely a plus.

ebay.com has 655 sold listings ranging from a high of $799.99 :)eek:) to a low of about $130. For cmaeras with box, etc.

That 800 dollar Epic was a buy it now sale on Dec 19 last year--my presumption is that it was a last minute Xmas present.

Folks, if you've got these cameras and aren't using them, it might be worth passing them along.

I'm waiting for the Pentax UC-1/Espio Mini bubble...:)

Sadly, the Terry Richardson effect and the hipsterization of film photography is only making prices of little workhorse point-n-shoots skyrocket. I saw one of these on eBay in the last week with a “buy it now” price of $799US. Not kidding. While I am sure that no one will fall for that, there are plenty of these selling for $250US and up everyday on eBay. It’s crazy. No different than the cost of Yashica T4/T5/T Proof cameras in my opinion.
Great cameras, but the prices today are exponentially higher than when these things were brand spanking new!
 
More than 10 years ago, I bought 2 of them new from B&H Photo for I think around $130 each Canadian. I also bought one on craigslist for $20.00. They all look and run like new, I hardly used them. I may never use them again cause I find 35mm film to be a hassle these days. But I am reluctant to sell them cause I hate sellers remorse( after I sold the 1st one I owned I replaced it with 3 others right away) but $300 each times 2 equals $600.00. That is really tempting
 
Gee--I'm a big Oly fan, but I bought an Epic zoom and ended up throwing it in the trash shortly after. One of the worst cameras I have ever had in my hands--terrible lens. Actually, that marked the end of my Oly love affair. Still have an XA, though.

My mju Zoom 140 cost me $10 from Japan. Shipping was $25. Surprisingly nice sharp lens.

I owned a couple of 35mm f/2.8 Epics and sold them. Never got why folks raved about them.

David, Olympus made the Camedia X-250, and maybe other models, that had the Mju sliding-cover design. Don't know how good they were, but I have one given to me a few weeks ago, untried.
 
The original Olympus XA is also a hot commodity right now (and for the last couple of years). You are more likely to have success scoring an XA2 or an XA3 for reasonable prices. Steer clear of the XA1 though.
 
Wow prices have gone up a lot on these. I saw one for a few dollars at a thrift store years ago but didn't buy it because the battery door was a bit wonky. Seeing MJU prices is making me feel better about dropping almost a thousand dollars recently on a T3. I love the camera but it feels like I'm throwing money away. Let's just say it wasn't a logical choice.

Prices are high but might hold up or go even higher... who knows. These desirable compacts will only become more and more rare and film has really carved out a solid foothold in recent years.
 
Bought my first XA full price when they first appeared and took it back to the makers twice. My last one cost a little over 3 pounds and I gave it away to someone on RFF who wanted one but in his country they cost a fortune.

BTW, the plain, cheap XA1 is a decent camera, if you get a good one. Takes only 400 or 100 ASA film and you can use the 100 or 400 switch to alter the exposure. Meaning use 400 film and tell the XA1 it's 100 for backlit scenes.

Thanks, I found a Minolta Dimage 2300 for 50 pence and am playing with it at the moment. It's a bit of a lump due to taking 4 AA's and a CF cards (I got an 8 MB card with it!). The menu is a joy to use or sparse, as soon would say...

Best of all it has a prime lens and - if it ever stops raining when I have some free time - I'll have an opinion of the lens soon.

Aziz Ansari's also been touting his Stylus Epic in interviews, though given the controversy around him it might have dampened any resultant explosion of prices. At any rate, don't see the prices on these going down any time soon.
 
This craigslist advertisement is Hilarious to me "low ballers will be ignored" A few years ago I bought a mint one on craigslist for $20.00 and the guy practically begged me to pick it up. I remember he cancelled other plans he had so we could meet. Soon i hope to put one of mine on Craigslist "$600.00 no low ballers please" haha

Wow, lately I've been checking KEH everyday looking for one of the few highly sought after point and shoots and yesterday they posted the original (3.5 lens) stylus for about 70 bucks. Today, it's gone. I'm definitely missing the first mjuII that I broke a few months ago more and more seeing these prices. I paid 4 dollars at a thrift store for it.

Can anyone tell me, other than the 2.8-3.5 difference in lens aperture, is there really a huge difference in the mju and the mju II?

IIRC mju I has a 3 element lens while the mju II has 4 (Tessar type? I don't recall that well now).

Fun to reread my post of about a year ago about a local mju "flying off". For the kind of money the compacts are going for I prefer an AF SLR with a kit zoom of some sort. But its usage is different due to size.

They render differently. Id say a fair amount. If you go on flickr and search each camera you will see the difference. The Epic / MJU II is more modern looking and Stylus or MJU I has a more classic look in my opinion.
 
I sold a muii late last year for almost $400. It was totally unexpected - I was hoping for $150. Evidently they are popular with college students who want a pocketable, automatic quality film camera.

I'd come to accept that auto focus cameras don't work for me and turning it in to 1/3rd of a Leica M6TTL .58 worked well for me.
 
Bought two mjuii/stylus Epic the same day this week.
First one i bought a mjuii action site in Sweden for approx 180 dollars, just after i bought that one i saw a Stylus Epic dlx 35mm 2.8 on eBay US for 22 dollars very good condition with box so ´had` to but that one as well... looking forward to try them out.
