Oly G.A.S.

I picked up a 5/200 yesterday for $15. It had drop damage (smashed filter on front, and aperture jammed open), and some fungus. Only need to put the front optical block back in, and it will be ready to go.

When I'm able to send you the Fed 2 I have a 2x adapter for the Oly camera's. Bought it off ebay years ago. The seller said it was for a Canon FD & when I got it I thought No Way is this gonna fit. Then found out it was for Olympus slr's 😀

I like the 35/2.8. It's very nice but I love the 28/2.8 and am amazed by the 24/2.8

I would concentrate on the 85/2.

If you want 35mm, get one of the 35-70 or the 35-105 zooms. The 35-70/3.5-4.5 is a great and flexible little lens. I find it perfect for day travel and event photos.

The 35-105 seems to be unknown but it's marvelous as well.

Mostly I'm looking for a 35mm and maybe the 85mm. Is the 35mm 2.8 any good? I saw the thread about the f/2 version and the consensus seems to be the older version isn't worth getting while the newer version is better. I don't care for bokeh and DoF and the extra stop of light. Size, handling and results are much more important to me. Suggestions?

Thanks again, Greg.

My Oly GAS continues. Recently picked up two Zuikos. A very nice late serial number (>900,000) Zuiko 50mm f1.4 and a very nice Zuiko 24mm f2.0. The 24mm is really nice, except for a almost unnoticeable ding in the filter ring that prevents a filter from being mounted. The seller might not have noticed it. I'm going to have the filter thread professionally fixed, as I don't want to risk messing it up myself.

Didn't really need either lens, but my impression is that the 50mm f1.4 has better bokeh and is a better built lens than the 50mm f1.8, particularly the MIJ 50mm f1.8, which are sharper but feel cheaper than their earlier f1.8 counterparts. I've shot a few rolls with the f1.4 and am looking forward to getting them processed to see how it performs.

As to the 24mm f2.0, I bought it on impulse, as I already have a very nice late serial number NMC multicoated Zuiko 24mm f2.8 and a mint Zuiko 24mm f3.5 shift. The price was very good for the 24mm f2.0 lens and optically it appears to be very clean. Looking forward to trying it out.

I rather like the 35/2.8 for its size and handling. I had the early 35/2 and while I liked the images, I found it too bulky for the camera.

28mm 2 is very tempting....it would go with my 35mm 2

Peace

The Zuiko 28mm f2.0 is a fantastic lens. I have and use 29 Zuiko lenses, and consider that my copy of the 28mm f2.0 has the most unique "signature" of them all. Images taken with this lens are very sharp and contrasty, but also have a distinctive liquid quality to them. My three personal favorite Zuikos are the 35-80mm f2.8 zoom, the 100mm f2.0, and the 28mm f2.0. Having shot with a number of brands, I think that these three lenses are as good as any comparable lenses made by anyone.

Hi,

Could we see a sample please? I'm struck by your description, and can't imagine it being all three at once...

Regards, David

I will try to provide a sample. However, a major problem is the quality of the scans coming from my crappy flatbed scanner. When I scan my film/prints, everything comes out looking noticeably soft and with a bit of overall flare.
