Oly XA needs some work

My needle for shutter speed doesn't work, but the camera's meter appears to work ok. I can live with that for awhile.

However, I noticed today that the little shield that covers the RF window doesn't fully slide out of the way when the camera is opened. Is this an easy fix, or will I have to send camera to Mr. Hermanson for the works?

the meter, I have been told is a dual system in some respects. It's not uncommon for the portion that sets the needle to shutter speed to stop working. I have two that work find, take great exposures. The good news... It keeps me from selling them.

On the flag, I have found that the cover for the lens often does not stay fully open unless I keep one finger on top of the camera, pressing slightly to the left for full open. I think the detent for the full open position gets weak. Usually if the flag shows too much, the meter shuts down. Must keep the lens cover fully extended to the left and the flag out of the window.

And I'm not kidding about it being a plus to have these slight malfunctions. Every time I sell my good XA's, I end up buying another one soon after.

I noticed that problem with the meter shutting down. If I opened and closed it several times, the flag sometimes moved enough for the camera to work.

You're right, if you can guestimate light, f stop, and asa, you don't need a needle to shoot. I do have new meters in stock if necessary. John

the mechanism that moves that cover out the way is pretty simple when you get into the cameras guts. I couldnt say why its not working, but I could guess at some dirt being jammed in there?

Anyway, its pretty easy to take the camera apart to get to that mechanism, all you need is a small screwdriver. if you go on kyphoto and do a search in the archives, someone lists the steps for removing all the bits of the camera.
