Hello,

just picked up an Olympus 35RC but I’ve got a problem with the focusing ring. The camera works really well in all other aspects but the ring feels a little bit loose and while fast rotating it sometimes growls and also is not much linear but it remains in position that I want. Is it a problem or not? If it is can I solve it somehow by myself or do I need to send the camera to service?

Well, mine doesn’t make any growl sounds but is very free and too easy to turn. I’ve just lived with it but normally prefer a focus ring with better damping on the action. Except for the growing think they all, at least the ones I’ve tried, have a similar focusing.

Edit; very short throw also, not much rotation from infinity to 3 feet.

My focus ring is smooth and there is just a slight damping. It also moves laterally between 1/32nd and 1/64th of an inch so very slight movement. I did have a CLA by Rick Oleson a few years back.

Sorry, can't help but mine sounds like Charjohncarter's - smooth with slight dampening - so sounds like your suspicions are correct and the camera might need some attention.
