Hi everybody,

I wanted to put a question to you about the shutter button of my Olympus 35 SP:

The SP has been newly CLA'd, and is working brilliantly. I only noticed now that when depressing the shutter button I have to press it straight down to the top of the camera, nearly 'into' the camera to release the shutter.

Now the shutter is not resisting or catching, it's quite smooth, but I don't remember if it behaved this way before.

Before sending it back for another checkup I wanted to get your opinions (at least of the lucky 35 SP owners among you: What are your experiences with the shutter button. Does it release with the button a bit above the top plate or is it normal that you have to press it completely down and squeeze your finger onto it.....

Thanks for your insights!

FWIW, my overhauled SP fires when the top of the shutter button is approximately 1 to 1.5mm from the top of camera body.

The shutter action on the SP is definitely not as "sweet" as that on a Leica M!

I think it's normal. I have to push the button of my 35SP quite a bit down before the shutter fires.

At first I found it not as smooth as a Leica M, but having gotten used to it, I've learned to push the butter mostly down with out firing the shutter and then go the lasty bit "at the decisive moment",🙄

Enjoy your camera, it's got a great lens with a special character in my opinion.

Well I'll be d....

Took out the Film I was testing the camera with as half the time it didn't release and lo and behold..... the darn thing shoots as every shutter press.
OK I still have to press the button down to the exact level of the top cover but it works. Just before I took out the film it didnt release half the time or only when I took the finger off the shutter button. And 3 or 4 times it didn't release but I could crank the shutter again....

The self timer sounds a bit.... well, wheezy and it stopped once after some secs. Worked very fine before.

Guess it will have to go back to the doctor....

Brian Sweeney once advised me as I had a similar issue on an SP. There is a very small, hair-thin spring in the bottom of the SP which governs the shutter/winder interlock. If one end is out of place it is possible to wind on without firing the shutter.
