I have two 35sp cameras, and the metering and shutter speeds have never let me down. I started thinking recently about having a CLA done to get some dust out of the lens assembly and brighten up the finder. I replaced the light seals myself a while back, and the cameras are both in great shape otherwise.
I have been unable to find anyone who will do a basic CLA on these cameras.
YYe and DAG don't work on them.
NipponPhotoClinic quoted me $180 for a "complete overhaul" including new light seals. I explained to them that I didn't need new light seals, and after a couple of frustrating emails exchanged, they can't tell me what a $180 complete overhaul includes. They just keep repeating that the light seals are probably bad and that they have no replacement parts for broken shutters. If they can't listen when I explain that I don't need light seals or shutter repair, then I am not paying them to touch my camera. They also said another option is just buying a used 35sp in better condition. I have two really clean, perfect operation cameras already, what good would that do? 🙄
I contacted a woman who supposedly works on old Olympus cameras, but I am waiting on her to contact me back. She seemed only mildly interested in doing a CLA.
I am ready to quit looking. I would mail them out of the country if I knew I could find someone really good at maintenance service.
Any ideas? My cameras are important to me, so I need to find someone who will keep them running smoothly for the next 40 years.
