Olympus 35SP question

what greyhoundman says ... it turns off when you put it back in the case and no light hits the meter

about the only complaint I have against a great camera, otherwise, a super sharp and smooth lens on that one

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah it was love at first sight as soon as I opened this. The only other slight frustration is no shutter lock, unlike my 35RC.

Use a lens cap. The shutter should lock if there is insufficient light. However, this function does tend to fail.

First frame from 35SP. Looks good, but there seems to be some sort of line scored across the bottom part of each frame 🙁 Wonder what could be causing that

Could one theoretically "turn off" the meter by putting tape over the meter window? The fact that you can't turn it off is also one of the things that annoys me about the camera. Of course, I usually forget to turn off the cameras that I can turn off (like the OMs). Perhaps I'm better off sticking with meterless cameras.

Due to this one annoying trait, I use it either with a handheld meter, no meter, or a flashshoe meter like the VC meter. Both my handheld and the VC have auto shut-off.

Draining the internal battery while trying to remember to put the cover back on the entire camera body was just too fiddly.

Huh? I've never had an issue with battery drain, I guess I'm lucky. One of my SPs is unmodified but sports a mercury (gasp!) battery, so battery life is long. The other got a modification to 1.5v included with a CLA; those last a long time and are so cheap I always have some with me. The advantage of this inexpensive camera having a spot meter and superb lens is too great to fret a battery (non)issue ... IMHO.
