I've got two Olympus Stylus Epics recently from eBay (both "as is"), and both have weird discoloration / smudge / glue spot in the viewfinder.

It looks like this:

can't find any mentions or repair ideas online
Anyone know how to fix it?

Water damage? To me it looks cheaper to fetch another one than to repair. If both come from one owner it would be interesting to know his habits.

Either water damage, or de-cementing in some finder group or prism. Given the price, not worth a professional repair. But if you want to try a DIY repair, many forum members should be able to donate a dead one with good finder optics...

Welcome aboard.

I'd put it down to experience and go after a good one. You've no get out when buying 'as is' stuff. But you could sell it for parts or repair...

It's a pity as they are nice cameras but there are plenty of them about at all prices and in all sorts of condition.

Regards, David

Mine is like that. Are yours the ones with panorama function? I'm pretty sure it's lcd leakage from the panorama lcd masks. Of course, a fix is doubtful.

I've had two of these both with the 35mm/2.8, very sharp.
Great no brainer camera with flash on/off option, spot meter/focus hold control.
Sold the first, bought it again!

A lot of folks here talk like Stylus Epic (Mju II) costs between 0 and $10...

Where do you get them?

The gelatin piece of filter in the viewfinder is coming off. There is nothing you can do about this and it does not affect the taking of photos.

I have bought mine at a local flea market along with the zoom II 80 for 25 euros. The zoom was dead though.

Well, I got my Stylus Epic at a local thrift shop for $4.99. I got a Stylus Epic Zoom for $9.99. Both were in "like new" condition, and only needed a battery. Look around and be patient. If you keep your eyes open and show up at the right moment, you'll find yours too.
