Olympus OM-3 how many ?

They were only produced for 3 years - 1983-1986. You might want to contact Olympus, as the number produced is pretty difficult, almost impossible, to research online.

I had one and loved it. I sold it. I was actually offered more then 3x the amount I paid for it. An offer I couldn't resist. I just wasn't using it anymore at the time.

That is toxic. Gas onslaught on many levels. :bang:

Just corrected my post. Thanks.

To me the risk seems low as the aquisition resistance in K€/$ is just too high. Have a look at the plain OM3. It is much less expensive. The few improvements of the Ti aren't worth the extra money IMHO.

I can account for one OM-3. 😀

And I have to say the build quality is noticable and the camera was worth every cent I paid for it ... and the wait for one to come along at the right price.

Olympus OM-3 how many

I have 3 Olympus OM3Ti's, One new/unused and two others in excellent condition and unmarked.

I will be honenest and say they don't feel as well built and nice to use (arrangement of controls and feel of controls) as the OM1 or OM2 cameras.

I keep a whole row of OM cameras (M1/OM1/OM1N/OM2/OM2N/OM2S/OM3ti/OM4/OM4Ti) on a shelf which I have easy access to every day just so I can pick one up crank the film advance lever and shoot a frame (bit of a fetish - but hey it makes me feel good) and every time I pick up an OM3/4 I dont walk away with any satisfaction. The pick of the bunch is a M1/OM1 - they just feel so right.

+1

Sold my OM2SP because I have a 4Ti and OM1. Love the OM 1, just so simple to use, looks great too. Kept the 4TI because I like the shutter sound 🙂

The film advance feels a little bit rough on the OM3. It is said to be caused by the gears made of steel instead of brass. I can't tell. The shutter dial is slimmer than that of the OM1/2 and the front of the prism housing bulges a little over the dial. The led indicator in the finder is a little bit more distracting too.
That said, the meter of the camera is ideal for high ISO photography in low light conditions. You can meter selectively on the faces and get a highly precise exposure. In all other cases I prefer my OM1n

The first thing I noticed with the OM-3 when I got it was the harshness of the advance ... the OM-1 is Leica like in it's smoothness. Small price to pay for the advantages IMO ... fully mechanical shutter that runs to 1/2000 and the amazing metering.

I too prefer the OM1 to the OM3, despite the latter's superior metering and higher (or just heavier?) build quality. It feels better in my hands and smoother in operation. And---if you care--it's got better aesthetics...

D.

Apparently they were a very expensive SLR by Olympus standards ... does anyone know what they sold for new?

Price of OM3Ti New

Price of OM3Ti New

I bought my first "real" SLR back in 1998, a Canon EOS5QD which cost me around AU$1000 for the camera body. I looked at an OM3Ti list price at the time and from memory (a bit faded now) it was about AU$3,500 for the camera body. Desire alone was not enough to spend $3,500 on the camera body alone at the time. Needless to say I could not find anyone in Western Australia who had actually sold one.

I still have the EOS5QD now in like new condition. I think a OM3Ti has depereciated substantially less, one worth nothing and the other around $2000 for a very good used example.
1 nil to Olympus.

Keith,
In July 1985, Adorama list in Popular Photography *:
OM-3 for 349.95 USD and OM-4 for 288.95 USD
OM-1n at 114.95 USD seems pretty cheap.

At that time,
Nikon F3 Ti for 539.95 USD body only was much more expensive.
Almost same price as Zuiko Shift 24mm : 542.95 USD,
or Nikkor 58/1.2 Noct (534.95 USD)

* this is the volume that report (LAB REPORT) Leica M6 (1,497 USD body only, ), and Ralph Gibson photos "Faces of Friends",
a collector volume 92, NO. 7
