Olympus quick flash AFL-S 35mm camera

Hi, I have just bought above camera from Ebay. Listing said it was in full working order. I have bought a Panasonic 6V lithium battery but when I put it in nothing seems to happen ( flash and shutter don't work ). I havnt bought a film yet so not sure if you need to insert film for camera to work.
Any advise greatfully accepted.
