Olympus Trip

I have just picked up an Olympus Trip 35 from a local charity shop, it's in mint condition, but I have a question about the light seal around the film compartment door, should there be any? there is some at the hinge side up to the catch.

I am thinking this is probably right but just wanted to check with you guys/gals who might have one.

Mick, I have three Trips and all of them are just like yours. Get some film in and start shooting I say.

If I recall correctly, the very first Trips had a light seal the full length of the film door, but this was very quickly replaced by the arrangement you see which is a strip up the hinge and, if you look carefully, two short strips in the grooves the door engages in that just run a little round the corner.

Yours sounds quite normal - though, unless someon has already done it, the seal may be stickily disintegrating.

Aki Asahi sells very good light seal kit for Trip for a few bucks. I have a late Trip (one with a black shutter release button) and it sometimes leaked light before I installed new seals.

Trip is a great casual shooter. By the way, Flickr has an active Trip group that you might consider joining if you are a Flickr user.

Thankyou all for the replies, it seems that the seals on mine are normal, just loaded a roll of HP5+ and going to give it a try.

I will have to admit I am impressed with the build quality.

I see no light seals in my Trip (serial 4227420 black shutter button) only a small strip where the door is hinged...but the camera works fine (no fog at all on the negatives)

There must come a time when light seals need replacing, but to date I have never replaced any of mine, not on my trip, cannonets or any other charity shop purchases.

Nice shots Lorenzo, I'v just been inspired to dig my trip out and do some more street with it.
