back to basics
Hi,
Just got an Oly XA today. Beautiful little gem it is. What bothers me now is the clamshell. It slides open, but it is quite stiff. Does anyone know how to disassemble this and lube it?
Edit:
Curiosity did the job for me. The sliding cover is flexible enough to fold off. Watch out for the little cylindrical bearing on top. Just clean a little and it moves smooth again.
Anyone have more tips for this little gem?
I have seen the pages on the web already, very helpful.
Thanks, Rob.

Rob: How are the light seals? Other than that, if it is functioning well and the shutter is accurate, just keep good batteries in it (SR44) and shoot away! I have two, and love them.

My girlfriend wrecked an XA in China, and when I took it to Olympus London (for a report for the insurance) they repaired it same day free of charge.
I understand that they pride themselves on this sort of service but they don't publicise it too widely.

Well Trius, the light seals are sticky. The meter has a different approach to light than my CLE or my Hexar. It's not always far off though. Outdoors I think it's OK. Indoors I think it's overexposing about a stop.

Talk to Jon Goodman about the seals. He sells a kit with precut seals for this model and a wonderful set of instructions on installing them. I just had to reseal my sister-in-law's XA, so I can attest to the quality of the instructions.
I have an XA of my own, but I think it needs a new beamsplitter mirror. The RF patch is practically gone. No money to get it serviced right now, so it sits on the shelf waiting....
