OM-4 give away ... if you answer my question correctly.

Good choice, Keith. I have never used an OM, but I can see that you like this system a lot.

Congratulations to Lynn. Now try to retake "that photo" with your OM-4.

There is a little I guess! 😀

It's funny but out of all the OMs I've tried the OM-4 has turned out to be the least appealing for me. The poor thing has been living in the cupboard without an outing for a long time now.

I think I've pretty well settled on my OM-1 as my favourite SLR with the OM-3 a close second. When you think about it the OM-3 is really not much more than an OM-1 with a spot meter and an extra shutter speed.

I'm with you here Keith.

The OM-1 beats the OM-3 for me because it has a self timer, mirror lockup and the FP flash setting on the PC socket which could allow one to use flash bulbs and synch at any speed. (I actually shot a few rolls like that back in the 1970s).

Oh, and I can read the meter needle on the OM-1 but my weakened vision leaves me unable to see the OM-3 and OM-4T meter scale. I shoot my OM-3 with sunny-16.

But I have to say the OM-3 does feel a bit tougher and, while not as pretty, the built-in flash shoe is stronger.

I have successfully brought dead OM-1s back to life but failed miserably with an OM-2SP.

The OM-4 is now packed up and on it's way to Lynn in Sydney ... I hope it brings him a lot of enjoyment. 🙂

Whoo Hoo! Lynn - YOU DA MAN!! Your picture posted in this thread ROCKED (not to mention all the rest I've seen of yours since then.) Can't wait to see what you do with Keith's OM4.

And thank you Keith! What a cool celebration this was. You make this forum so fun.

Thanks Chris. 🙂

My OM-1's, all three of them have been my companions since the mid 1970's. I have owned other SLR's, but none have ever captivated as these gems have done. When I hold one in my hands, it becomes a part of my body. It is the eye that looks upon each subject and allows me to capture special moments in my life that have come to remind me how special those brief moments are. It is with these cameras that I have taught my children and grandchildren how to both find and capture the special moments and surprises in their lives. On some special occasions I venture out with all three cameras. Although when I do this I almost always keep the same film in two of them and Tri-X in the third. I generally keep a Zuiko 21mm f/2 lens on Tri-X camera and a Zuiko 50mm f/1.4 on another with a Zuiko 35-105mm f/3.5 on the remaining camera. Sometimes I put a Zuiko 135mm f/2.8 in a vest pocket, but not all that often. As I begin to compose with my naked eye, my mind shows me both what I'm looking to accomplish as well as what I'm likely to end up with. After many enjoyable years with these marvelous cameras, I look forward to each outing more than the previous one. Oh yeah, and I always, always tuck an XA into my top right vest pocket... you just never can tell when you will need it.

The OM4 arrived safely and I had to search high and low to find my Zuiko 50mm/1.8... finally found it in a box with a lot of old camera stuff high up in a closet...

I've just shot a test roll with the 50 after persuading my daughter to stand still for a few minutes - these were shot on Agfa colour neg ISO100 film (the only slower film I had at hand), scanned in a V700 at 4800 dpi and processed in Lightroom 4 and CS6.

Coming back to the OM was like renewing a love affair with an old flame... that lovely big viewfinder made focusing so easy... the camera feels so good in the hand...

Here's the best shot out of the 18 remaining on the roll. Thanks again, Keith, for letting me go down memory lane and enjoy a fantastic camera!

thanks Jamie. The lens actually has a small amount of fungus in it but I'm thinking that could contribute to the soft focus effect!
