OM, I've become a Zuikoholic!

thanks, roland. when i send in my om1 i'll have it checked. my om-1n is so clean, i'm afraid it might be awhile before it gets sent.

I had a MINT OM1 once, Paul, and after owning it for 2 years the prism went south. It's un-avoidable.

All OM1n have prism foam. OM1 have prism foam if serial < 1,110,000.

A bit more Zuiko eye-candy.

The Olympus Macro lenses deserve their mythical status. This was from the old (manual diaphragm, single-coated) 80mm f/4.0 Macro bellows lens from the 1970s.

Captured on Fomapan 100, using an Olympus OM-1 and the OM bellows. This was ultra-bright, ultra-high-contrast lighting on a beach ("sunny 16" conditions). Note the complete lack of aberration (flare, chromatic error, etc) where the pure white bits of the mussel borders the darker/shadow areas. Such negatives can be printed to giant sizes and still look very good.

A couple of images from my latest roll. All captured on Ilford Pan F ("pushed" to ISO50 - this film really is happier at ISO25-32), and using with the Zuiko 90mm f/2.0 Macro.

I do a good amount of pin up and suicide girls type photography and I love this shot. I may try a version of it on my next shoot! Great shot! 😀

Portraits with Zuiko 50/1.4

Portraits with Zuiko 50/1.4

Here are three taken with the 50/1.4 from a set just posted on Flickr. I was going through some old photographs and realized that many of my favorite portraits were done with the 50 mm, even though it's not considered the ideal focal length for portraiture.

I just happen to like that focal length and use it most often on my OM-1; and naturally, since I almost always have it with me, I take more spur of the moment, candid portraits with it. Or, as I put it in the description of the set:

The 50mm isn't really considered a portrait lens, but it certainly works. After all, the best lens for the job is the one you have with you if that's all you've got, and I always have my Zuiko 50/1.4 with me. After looking through some of my old pictures, I was struck by what a good job it does for portraits, whether indoors or out, for a head and shoulders shot, an environmental portrait, or a small group. To my eyes, even the ones that are a bit soft, because of my focusing errors or slow shutter speeds, still have a certain magic glow to them.

I'd like to see your portraits with the 50, if any of you'd like to share some. Of course I'd love to have an 85/2, and my 100/2.8 renders portraits beautifully too, so show me something, whatever focal length you've got.

Not sure if anyone is interested, but there is a clean looking Zuiko 24mm f2 that may go relatively cheap on the Exciting Big auction site. I would keep it to myself and bid, but I already have one. 😀

Discovered the Fomapan 100 Classic film. I bought one roll, just to try it out in my last large order - after I scanned the roll I immediately placed an order for 100ft more!
