OM, I've become a Zuikoholic!

Thanks Trius.

I wish I'd shot more film that night, but was saving most of it for the Christmas parade the next day. Shot six rolls altogether and I just started scanning this evening.

Walgreen's did a horrible job with their scans. I was quite upset when I first viewed them. The sunlight shots looked overexposed, the night shots looked muddy, and there was a lot of dust or lint or something on nearly every frame. Half the rolls, including the one with the posted shot, showed a pale streak running longitudinally about a third of the way from the bottom through every frame.

Fortunately the negatives seem okay, but I've got a lot of work to do now. I'm using an Epson V500 - very slow and I hate the flimsy film holder - but it's doing a far better job than the sullen kid at Walgreen's! I guess that'll teach me!

Gregor, I have a Plus Tek 7200 35mm film negative/slide scanner. It's about the size of a loaf of bread with a slot in the side where you slide in the neg or slide holder. Does a great job and its not expensive. Here's one:

Thanks Ted. That looks like a nice shot - beautiful girl - and a good scan. The Plustek is definitely on my wish list.

tomalophicon. It wasn't. I was simply trying to illustrate the performance of the Plustek. This particular photograph was taken with an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic with a 50/1.4 Super Takumar lens.

It's CHRISTMAS TIME again . . . . . . .

Just wanted to say a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to all the fellow Zuikoholics on RFF, wherever you may be. Keep that shutter finger active :)

Wishing you all "blissful light" this holiday seasan, and the Zuikos to capture it.

Etymology of "Zuiko"
The Olympus Optical Company was established in 1919 under the name of "Takachiho" - mythical mountain ruled by the Goddess of Sun which may be compared to Greece's Mount Olympus. In 1936, it began the production of camera lenses and selected the name of "ZUIKO", meaning "blissful light". Since then, ZUIKO lenses have been widely acclaimed throughout the world."

I got an OM1 for a bargain price the other day, it had a 50 1.4 on it. So I threw a roll of neopan 1600 through it and I have to say it is so silky smooth and a delight to use. I love this camera, I want to buy a couple more lenses for it: short tele and a 35mm. How good is the 70-150 zoom? its looks small and light.

I have one and it is a fine lens, being quite sharp with medium contrast. Some people don't like this lens as being not sharp. This problem may be attributable to separation of the elements, which is not uncommon given the age of these lenses. You must make sure that the one you get doesn't have this problem.

I have 3 of the 75-150 zooms, including the one I bought new in 1975. All are perfect and give great results. None has lens separation. In fact I never heard of this before. Could it have something to do with the regional weather where the lens is kept?

I recommend that you should always use the built-in lens shade in daytime.

Anyway it is lucky for us that the lens has an unfavorable reputation because you can get them cheap and they are great. I like the compact size and the 49mm filter threads.

I dunno about the zoom, but the 100 f/2.8 is superb. Inexpensive too!
