Then again if you go in to say a cathedral or mosque during the day you may find a bit of speed handy.
Yeah, that might be a good reason to carry the 50/1.4 also. It's not that big. Just throw out the maps and the snacks!

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I know from experience that changing lenses while out and about with my wife is a lost cause due to her impatience. (I can barely stop for more than 5 seconds to capture an interesting shot with her along).
So I think I am going to limit myself to a single body and the 35-70, with the 75-150 hiding in the bag to come out only in an "emergency".
I had ideas of bringing along a Medium Format TLR or M645 but That probably won't fly. I think for backup I'll take a dreaded digicam.
Although I would love to shoot some B/W I think I'll stick to color. It is the Caribbean, after all.

Wow, I am really counting my blessings now. My wife hasn't ever complained or even suggested impatience, and I do like to take my large format camera with me - 5mins per shot minimum
If your time is really that limited, you are indeed taking the right kit then (two zooms). Still, I wouldn't - a zoom just doesn't feel right on an OM to me. I'd rather shoot a 40mm all day...

I couldn't agree more - the zooms are probably the best choice given his circumstances, but it wouldn't feel right to me either. In my case though,it would be the 50mm all day, but if I could afford one, it would be a 40!

I know. I've had an OM1 since 1975 and I have never gone out only with a zoom. Typically I would go with only a 28mm, especially traveling in Asian cities. But I want to travel light and I think that a Zuiko zoom beats most other makers' primes.
(but that just may be my brand loyalty speaking)

I've never used a zoom on my OM's. In fact, I've never even seen one except in photographs, but if the opportunity ever presents itself, I'd like to try one. I can see that a 35 - 70 or 35 - 80 might come in handy in certain situations when you have to travel light and/or you can't zoom with your feet.

An Om-4 is not that expensive and has a built in diopter Paul. If you really want to go the purist route I've heard that there are diopters available for the earlier OMs.

thank you, f6. a little google search showed a plethora of diopters available for the pre-om-3s. thank you very much.

Great detailed OM arcane knowledge JSU. I'm going to check mine now - thanks.

Interesting information JSU. My OM4 has the chrome battery cover, but the battery check doesn't self-cancel. However, I had batteries in it for a couple of months, without them being drained. I tend to leave the camera switched to 'manual' (habit, since this is the 'Off' position for the OM2). Could this be reducing/eliminating the battery drain issue?

I just pulled out my Om4T from my safe and gazed through the viewfinder. Holy crap! The view is huge compared to my Nikon D700. The Nikon is like looking through a tunnel. I'm going to pull out my Pentax LX, Contarex and Leica R4 and see which has the widest view......

Da-ang this thread! It's so good, and informative and... it makes you want to buy cameras!
I pulled the trigger on a black OM2n this morning... and now I see another OM2 coming up for peanuts - where will this end?
