An outstanding Zuiko that receives little notice is the Zuiko 35mm shift lens. My 2 copies are the pretty rare multicoated versions. A little slow in handling due to the manual diaphram common to all shift lenses that I know of, but beautiful smooth rendering that is sharp but not clinical. Great skin tone rendering. I have heard that this lens shares the same optical design as the Zuiko 24 f2.8, but with a larger image circle to allow for the shift function. A comparison of the lens design diagrams for both lenses seems to bear this out.

I've been looking for a short range wide to "normal" lens to go with my (chrome) OM2n and recently found a 28-48mm f4 in very nice order. Anyone have experience of using this lens? It's likely to be used with Tri-X or HP5+ for general around town / street shots and a bit of travel.
I've also got a 24mm f2.8 and 50mm f1.4 (both later, black-nose versions), I just wanted a compact walkabout lens. Are there any better than the 28-48mm f4?

Greetings,
5 years and 50 cameras later I'm back to the OM system, a giant circle that I don't want to make again. I lusted for a black one for a long time, and 40/2 always seem to be out of reasonable price range... until this week. I wish this would cure my GAS for a moment. Hope to share some pictures soon.
That a fantastic bit of kit you have there. I have been shooting my 1979 OM-1n again this week while my M2 is out for CLA. I never tire of that camera. Just so wonderful. I agree the price of the 40 is silly.

Jason Eskenazi is awesome. I bought his book about Russia from him via his website. Very, very strong work. There are some interesting interviews with him floating around on the internet, I specifically remember one where he told about his time as guard at the Museum of Modern Art. Boring/taxing work to stand (still) so much, but he used the pay and the health care coverage to refuel his batteries, so to speak. And he perused the Robert Frank exhibition like nobody else ;-)

I purchased a lot of 14 SLR camera's and in it was a lone Olympus OM-4, when
I received it, it was in mint condition but seemed to have power issues, the battery
check was blinking to much. So I remembered reading that the black painted cover
have contact issues, so I cleaned the threads on the sides with Flitz polish and the
threads of the bottom cover as well after that it works perfect, these are real nice
camera's.

Great, I just used a Q-Tip and cleaned the sides all around and followed that
with a clean dry one and you'll see the black that comes off that.

Yeah, John Hermanson of Camtech told me a few years ago that if one's OM camera is having electronic problems, one should go through the following checklist to eliminate common, easily fixed electronic problems:
1. Check the batteries to see if they are dying, leaking, and make sure they are the correct battery type (electronic OM's must use silver oxide S76 or S357);
2. Clean the threads of the battery cap and battery compartment with a slightly rough cloth, as a blackish film tends to accumulate there which can interfere with the connection (also don't use a black painted battery cap);
3. Check to make sure that the screws of the bottom plate are reasonably tight (don't overtighten as you can strip the screws).
Following this advice has cured several intermittent electronic problems I have had with my OM cameras over the years.

After going through this thread I don't know if I'm in more awe of the OM system or you guys' photo skills!! To think I've had an OM-2N sitting pretty much unused here for decades. Anyway, I got an OM-4T and my old 50mm f1.8 and I naturally had to test it on my new rescue, 'Aristotle' the kitten. This is Delta 3200 @ 6400 dev HC-110.
