Does anyone have the OM winder 2 and if so could they tell me if its possible to use the grips shutter release and still use manual film wind? I have no use for the drive I just need a good grip in the studio and it looks awkward to have the grip and use the original release.

No. In order for the winder shutter release to work the winder must be switched on and will therefore wind the film afterwards.

Sky Arts 1 (UK satellite channel) is running a 1 Hr 40 minute retrospective about Jane Bown - an Olympus OM series user par excellence. Worth watching as it has some interesting insights about her life and work.

The main reason for this post is that I have a Zuiko 28-48mm f4 lens sitting around doing nothing. The reason for its inactivity is that I have acquired a nice bunch of small primes. Anyway, the lens has developed what I can only describe as a slow-motion shutter blade return issue.

Therefore, as I possess neither the skills to attempt a fix nor the inclinantion to seek professional help, I'm offering it up FREE OF CHARGE to anyone in the UK who fancies a project to fix. In all other respects, it's in really lovely condition and it comes with front and rear lens caps. I'll even stump up the postage (for mainland UK) as I hate to see something go to waste.

😀 I joined the OM group in 2012 after getting a
black OM-1 w/ 28mm 3.5.
I had it serviced by CamTech and I was delighted...

Well I finally added more lenses: the 100mm f 2.8
and the 200 mm f 4

So far so good....

What is it about the OM-1's shutter that makes it so magical? It's just so smooth and unobtrusive somehow. And that hugemonous viewfinder!

The whole OM line is pretty darn good, but I wish they could've captured more of the OM-1 magic in the OM-4s. The only one of the single-digit OMs I have yet to try is an OM-3 and OM-3Ti.

Still the OM-4 is a great camera. But, I see your point now.
The OM-1 is really a very smooth camera and a pleasure to use.

Within a week I've added a OM-4, a OM-2N black and an OM 135mm /3.5.

Yes, certainly an expensive lens in comparison to other 50mm Zuikos - but worth it! I'm also considering selling mine, in mint condition, to fund some other purchases I'm considering.
