Not interested in repair services. I'm fixing it to get a better price when selling.
 
Wanted the 85/2 for a long time.. found one a few months ago, along with a 28/3.5.

While waiting for a new screwdriver to arrive for the 85/2, I've come up with a devious plan to not only get my Sony a7 back, but also getting my girlfriend to start shooting film.

Now she mentioned that she likes manual focus, since she stole my a7 with the Zuiko 50/3.5 macro with her to Germany, I think she does. Luckily I have plenty of manual focus OM lenses!
She's always in auto mode, so handing her my OM1 doesn't seem like the best idea. A OM2 would be great, but the prices have been on the rise for years now; enter OM 707!

The OM 707 apparently was a commercial disaster, the auto focus is slower than a pothead stuck in the mud, the body is 300% plastic and there are no manual controls. Well, there's manual aperture if you don't use the AF lenses (which you won't after trying the AF).
As an AE camera with MF lenses though, it's pretty good actually. The shutter is really quite quiet, and doesn't shake much, the meter is spot on. The finder is very much Olympus OM - big, bright and snappy!


At 130:- (€14) including shipping and a Sigma 75-200 AF, it fell well within budget. After trying it out this morning, all functions seems to be working. Of course the battery cover is loose, but a bit of duct tape will fix this, and add some personality to the piece!

All in all I think it's going to be a perfect first film camera for her, and maybe one day, she'll find herself broke on the curb with a BP OM3Ti and a 50/1.2...

I thought for a while that it'd be better to get her an all manual control camera, but after thinking a bit more, this seemed like a better idea; letting her focus on what's really important: content and composition!
From what I've seen so far, she's really good at capturing people, and I can admit to being slightly jealous! 😱
 
Just having a look at my focus screens in my om4 and ti, the only numbers they have are 13 are these the screens everyone on the internet talks about being the brightest?

I took a test roll before handing the camera over to the girlfriend, wouldn't want to get her started in film photography with a malfunctioning device (and I was super curious :angel🙂.

It's quite fun to use, the huge finder gives a great view and Zuiko glass is - as you already know - absolutely top notch.

It always feels a bit strange, since I'm used to a manual everything Leica M3, to be using auto exposure and a WYSIWYG finder again!

The thing that did bug me, what the flash control, I never got the hang of it, admittedly I was drunk. Since I had the F1.8 lens on, we just used the modelling light on the flash instead!

I still think it's a great entry level camera, and great fun to use. A bit plasticky, but that really doesn't matter to the end result. Of course a camera should feel good to use, but since this camera has such simple operation, and that awesome finder, I forgive the poor choice of materials!

The OM707 is quite a hidden gem, and I look very much forward to seeing the results my girlfriend is going to produce, I have a lot of faith in her...

OMG, I've been browsing this thread for a long time. After a while I bought a few Zuiko lenses: 28/2.8, 50/1.8 and 50/3.5 macro to use with my OM-D. They perform wonderfully with the OM-D, but today I broke down and ordered a OM-2S. So looking forward to test that. So I guess I'm a bona fide Zuikoholic now 🙂

Nice! The OM2 is also a very nice camera, in fact all the single digits are (I say without having tried a OM3), I think you'll be very happy with it!
Great lenses as well, the 1.8 is sooo tiny, and the 3.5 macro has great versatility and sharpness!
Very good for architecture and landscapes as well, due to having great corner performance and a flat plane of focus.
Is it the silvernose 1.8 or a newer one? Planning on getting a long focus lens as well?
