Hi,

I just bought an OM4ti from a dealer, and it has a strange issue...

When I first use it 'from cold', i.e. after it's been unused all night, it won't fire the shutter after a wind-on, but it think it has, as it lets me wind on again, and again, maybe a few times, and it's starts working as normal.

It's got LR44s in it, so I've order some SR44s, see if that's the problem. I don't want to send it back, as other than this, it's a lovely camera.

Has anyone else experienced this?

What sound is the battery check supposed to make, even the manual does't make it clear!?

Cheers

Usually, either type of battery should work fine.
When I had some winding/shutter issues, my OM-4 Ti's winding and shutter cocking mechanism did fail entirely shortly afterwards. Here's hoping it won't happen to you.

Hmm, OK, will try with the new cells, but it's not sounding promising.

The battery check makes a bip-bip-bip sound rather than continuous, is this the sound of dead batteries, or is it normal? The manual is vague on the matter.

Cheers

Just a note to say that this model has an issue with batteries. they drain when is off, so always take them off. I do not think that the B mode helps...
but when batteries are low, the whole thing freezes... and does not come back until you have new batteries.
what about the 1/60th? that should work...

The OM4ti should not have the battery issue common to the earlier OM4. The easy way to verify is to switch on the battery check. If the tone stops after 30 seconds or so, your camera does not have the battery drain issue.

The battery check tone should be continuous, if not, the batteries you are using may not be good. From time to time even new batteries are no good, I have bought a couple of nearly dead batteries in the past year.

Batteries differ from batteries...I wouldn't trust much even good LR44's like Varta and such as their voltage curve is sloppy by design. Even if camera accepts them. Good juicy SR44's are my choice.

This is not a battery issue, even with dead batteries you should NOT be able to wind it multiple times without tripping the shutter. What an OM-4T does with dead batteries is it locks up and the mirror goes up and the shutter doesn't open. You CANNOT wind the film when it is locked up like this. It will not move. If it does, the camera is BROKEN. Return it before it is too late.

I agree with Chris - I had a similar problem, since fixed. it is not batteries, the wind mechanism does not always cock the shutter - it requires a competent repair person. I'd return it and retry

Yup, sounds the exact same issue, the OM4ti has been retured, shame, I really liked the OM4ti, I used to own one a few years back, should have just held on to it, ah well...
