On another matter... OM2n Frame Counter Oddness

Hiya,

This Friday just gone I noticed my OM2n's frame counter has packed in. When you open the back, it doesn't reset to zero and doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason to its operation.

I did wonder when this happened and how it happened. Shortly afterwards I got in the car throwing it on to the passenger seat ... think I figured out that answer 😉

Is this something I might be able to fix, if not, in the UK who would be good for repairing this, and also replacing all the seals as they're pretty shot (but keeping the light out for now.)

You can try close it, and pull the rewind lever up a bit more forceful next time, I just did that to my OM2 and it works. If it's really shot then I suggest Keith Leedham, he can turn it around within 1-2 days and cost less than 50 quids. www.klcamerarepairs.co.uk

Sounds quite likely as the other week the light was just to die for one evening and I was zipping around here and there in the car to capture what I could of it, and a few times the camera was thrown very casually on the passenger seat. It hasn't had a particularly pampered existence with me. Maybe it should be 🙁 It's not that I don't care, I do very much, but I'm more consumed in doing everything to capture a moment rather than pack everything away carefully before the next scene.

I gave that a shot but it didn't help. I've phoned Keith and advised him I also need the seals replaced as they're shot through and it won't be long before I start getting light leaks (surprised I haven't already.) I also have an very rare odd problem where the mirror locks up exposure, seems to happen with my 50mm f/1.8 and 100mm f/2.8 -- not the 28mm f/3.5 -- might be sticky mirror damper foam or something else.

Anyway I sent it off today as I'm going to have around 10 rolls of film to scan soon and shooting more pictures is off the cards until I get through that lot, unless there is a stunning snow scene in the South Downs as I have a few frames of 400NC left in the Autocord.

+1 for Keith. I had a similar problem with the ISO mechanism jamming/slipping, came back from him good as new. Hope the weather doesn't hold it up in the post 🙄.

It might be related to the deteriorating foam light seals in the back.
If some of that sticky flaky foam gets into the mechanism along the top channel of the door
it'll prevent the counter from counting.
