I have been convinced by the posts and images in this forum re the X100 and have now ordered one, should receive it in a few days. I have had only a brief encounter with the camera but loved it, it was a revelation.

i use Leicas and found the Fuji OVF brilliant, but can you get rid of the information in vf? the one thing that I found very disractting was the little squares in the vf as it wrote the files to card?.

I have ordered a generic hood and now wonder how to put a filter on the lens, does this go on the hood?

Any suggestions re the type of filter ie UV -Skylight etc.,

I will appreciate any suggestions, my first venture into 'proper digital' apart from a lovely LX3 which I use as a P&S so I will be reading up on all of your informative contributions to RFF.

You won't regret it, I've had mine for 18 months and I'm still amazed at the quality of the images. The hood bayonets to an adapter on the lens, filters attach by 49mm screw to the adapter but inside the hood. Choose a good quality filter, I use a Hoya UV. The filter also acts to prevent dust getting into the lens which can happen as the elements move in and out. You can turn off the information in the VFs, this is in the settings menu.

Good choice Tony. I've had mine since it launched and still enjoy using it. Been using the smaller X10 alongside it and they make a good pair. That said, I've just purchased the Sony RX100 so the X10 will be getting sold. My other mains shooter is the RD1 which has a real rangefinder and when shooting events eg protests, parades etc I'll use it with a wide or long lens and use the X100 as the standard. Quite often though the X100 goes out on its own as its a very capable cameras despite all the moaning that was done by some when it launched. If you can shoot with just the fixed 35mm you'll enjoy it. I'm having to make sure other cameras get an outing too as since buying the X100 others get left behind. Looking forward to some shots from you.

Bought mine in July for a job in a dark factory... so glad I did! I've owned a GF1 ,G12 and R-D1 and this is the first digital that, in some respects, matches up to my beloved Hexar AF - and for colour it's probably better. (The R-D1 was good, but became v expensive when you buy a fast 28mm to get a 40/2 or 35/2 equivalent)

I'm loving the features like the ND filter - absolutely terrific. Lost only one possible shot due to AF speed... and had some pretty good results with zone focusing.

anyway, altho I'm really a writer, I just sent the lead shot for a possible feature in a v trendy men's style mag - has to be good enough for a full page bleed - and the owner/art director emailed back to say he loves it.

All the shots I didn't get were due to that age-old mistake, not seizing the moment - having a nice shot set up, thinking I'd shoot in a second, then have light/circumstances change.

I hate digitals really, but this is my fave digital so far. The only serious flaw is the range at which macro clicks in, I get irritated by having to swtich to macro too often - which takes two presses of the circular dial, and it's hard to do without distracting myself from the shot.

Well it is good to know I ma in good company, I too am trying out the digital 'rf' I am a long time Leica user and have been very wary of digital using only a p&s Lumix.

I now have the camera and am charging battery, will start to set up tomorrow, I hope to use Raw files and convert, this is a big learning curve, been on online tutorials all day! I use Aperture and i hope my version will handle the files. Best way of getting the feel of camera is to use it and that is what I will be doing tomorrow!
i will keep you posted on my progress.

Not to hijack Tony's thread, I too just placed an order for a x100 after a few months of analysis/waiting for photokina/renting a XP1, OMD & x100- I missed the x100 more than all. So, coming from film only (painter, not photographer) & embarrassed to admit it butt this is my first digital camera.... BTW I love the images that everyone here creates, your skill is only second to your eye for content... thanx-Daniel.
