The meter on the FM2 will drive you nuts after the FE and FM3A. I promise.

Which is why an FE2 might make a better FM3a replacement than an FM2/FM2n for those who like the needle-based meter read-out. The FM2s do have the advantage that you can actually see the meter indication in low light.

Sell them both, plus all the Leica glass, and buy a Nikon FM10. Being long-term unemployed suggests that you need the money more than the gear; and the FM10 will let you keep the Nikon glass working for very little outlay.
Edit: Actually, after rereading your opening post - sell everything. Sounds like autofocus is the way to go, given your eyesight; and perhaps even a digital point-and-shoot would better suit your needs.

I have FM3A and MP. I do not know what I would do if I were in your place. the MP has a superb mechanics, but FM3A is a genius. So what to do is a personal choice.
If you use often the camera in low light, surely MP is better.

If you stay with Nikon , consider a F 100 ( with 2 AF lenses if your eyes are getting worse ) . For Leica , a M2 if you don't need a meter . Good luck !

I would never sell a Leica M and the 50mm.
The monies you'd receive for your Nikon and lenses,
based on what i've been paying the last few years in Toronto and previously in L.A. will be meager, to put it plainly..
I have picked up at camera shows, bodies and lenses almost
in new condition for under $50...
A mint black Spotmatic no meter for $10.
I know what folks say you CAN get and What you will get.
Look at KEH selling prices..
The final decision should be yours..
I use a Point and Shoot digital for everyday use.
I shoot about + 20 rolls of film a year.
I was given many kits as gifts..
Canon A-series, with lenses, Minolta, with lenses,
Practica and Fuji slr.
Lenses were so inexpensive, a coffee at McDonald might have cost more!!
I've shot with many auto focus cameras,
having used them time to time,
in light where i struggle, so do they!
Even high end professional ones misfocus..
The main reason many modern lenses don't have real aperture speed but infinity ISO.
The Leica has never faltered..😀

You a a good man to detatch from a system. I find it painful.
Assess your goals and pick the system that works best. RF cameras have severe disadvantages, mostly framing accuracy.
At some point you will have to go digital and Nikons are far cheaper. But selling your MP may give you a big loss.

There's no way I'd be keeping an FM camera over an MP. Personally though, I don't like the fm series cameras.

I don't own an MP and probably never will but I certainly wouldn't be favouring the Nikon in this situation. I had an FM3A and didn't like it much to be honest ... it felt cheap and harsh.

I'd be tempted to sell both.
With deteriorating eye-sight then one option could be to pick up an F80 - they are brilliant 35mm auto-focus SLRs and go for ridiculously low sums these days - they're like a film version of a full format dSLR.

Not so, the FM3A is a heck of a camera. I had a similar dilemma and I sold my FM3A and kept the Leica, then promptly pulled my Nikon FE out of an unused bag and I was back in Nikon love again.

Sell the Leica. Get a load of film and travel.
Sure the Leitz lenses might be better, but the stuff you'll shoot with them usually doesn't require the better lens quality to shine in print, unless you print beyond 2X legal size / A3 size.
Plus, getting a new Nikkor lens in the future will leave you with more choices and less expenses! Double win!

An FM3a is a camera for which I love the sentiment (can even adore the sentiment) and yet recognise that it is sentiment. Practically, you'd sell the FM3a for far more than it would cost you to buy an FE2 and an FM2n, then trouser a bunch of cash besides. Similarly, you could sell your MP, buy an M6, and barely notice the difference in terms of camera, yet trouser even more cash. Or buy an M4 (or M4-P, or M2 or - better - an M3, if you don't want much wider than 50mm) and have cash in hand yet still retain wonderful cameras.
<Or sell the lot, buy an OM-4T and some Zuiko lenses and live in film SLR heaven. This, however, may be a bridge too far for a Nikon guy.>

Another "If you need the cash, sell 'em both!" here. They're just toys. If you must have a film camera, as others have already stated there are far cheaper options.

Finding buyers for MP's I suspect is quite difficult at the moment. There's one in the classifieds right now for a good price. The price for an MP is actually quite close to the price I sold my first one for back in 2007ish. My second sold for around 2500 euro about 2yrs ago. Prices are definitely down. Leica digital M has really hammered MP prices this last few years.
