40mm is the way to go (preferably in a Rollei 35;-)
This is good advice. If I were to do a one lens/one camera/one year, I’d choose a 40mm lens or equivalent. Rollei 35 is one possibility. An M3 and 40mm Summicron or Rokkor is another. And the superb Lumix 20mm f1.7 gives you the equivalent of 40mm on an m4/3 camera; don’t know what the equivavlent is for the Fuji system though.

FUJINON XF 27mm F2.8 (41mm in 35mm format equivalent)

For the Fuji bodies, the 27mm f2.8 pancake gives roughly the 40mm equivalent. It’s a great little all-rounder lens.

If forced to use only one prime lens on one camera for one year, I would choose one of the following:
1. Rolleiflex TLR with 80mm f/2.8 lens.
2. Leica M6 rangefinder with 35mm f/1.4 lens
3. Nikon F4 SLR with 35mm f/1.4 lens
4. Fuji X-Pro2 digital mirrorless with 23mm f/1.4 lens
I picked the last three because I have used them and know from experience that I could survive for a year using only one of them.
I picked the Rolleiflex because I have used Yashica and Mamiya TLR cameras and have always wanted to try the Rolleiflex.

I've just looked at the photos I've taken over the last year, admittedly it has not been a "normal" year". However, ~90% of them were its the 35mm on the X-Pro2 or 50mm on the M6 or F3. Does that help?

I saw a picture of the new XF 2.8/27 on the new Fuji X-E4: a handsome combo.

I am currently dealing with the GAS resulting from my first impression of the XE4/27mm: that it's a modern-day Minolta CLE.
