One of the first b+w-pics

Hi everyone,

I finally managed to develop my first roll shot with the Zeiss Ikon. I used HP5+, rated at ISO 400 and developed in ID-11... not ideal I know, but I just couldn't wait until I tested my films properly. This is one shot of the roll, my daughter just before going to bed. 😉 Also I'm not really happy with my scanner, so I think, I have to invest more money into a Nikon Coolscan. Nevertheless, here's the picture. 😉

sometimes it's not the camera, film, developer or scanner that makes the picture, but the picture itself. truly a lovely picture. the lighting, her expression, her eyes & wet flat hair, the walls in your bath, the black border framing what looks like a window, the low angle, etc.

i love this picture. very peaceful and private. thanks for sharing.

What kind of scanner is it? Don't see anything wrong. Its a nice photo and scan. Unless you are scanning for printing, you don't really need a high end scanner.

Thank you very much for your kind replies. Yesterday I developed my first roll of Neopan Acros and really like it. Again, these are pictures concerned with my daughter (my favorite subject for photography 😉 ) from her birthday party last weekend.

Nachkebia, I decided to use only one developer with my films for the next time. I went with Xtol, since this seems to consistently give great results with Acros, Tri-X and Neopan 1600 (my 3 films of choice).

Nachkebia: Thanks for the image with the comparison of Kodak's developers... where do you got it from? I would really be interested to see the changes when using Xtol 1+1 (that's what I do). It is said to enhance the shadow detail and further enhance sharpness while giving a bit more grain... would like to see it in comparison with other Kodak developer, e.g. D-76 1+1.

You disappoint me, Thorsten, by putting your selfish interests above The Progress of Photography. I have film-developer combinations to test too. Besides, my grey beard is a damn sight more bushy than that of the man in your 35 mm picture: little kids love to wipe their gooey hands in it.

I've noticed that no one on RFF speaks of developers which give fine grain with a small increase in speed. At one time I used Promicrol (May and Baker) for up-rated ASA/BS 100 film, and later Microphen (Ilford) for 125 film, similarly up-rated. Had to be very careful about time and temperature, specially with the first, since over-developing meant negatives almost impossible to print.

Nothing wrong with the camera, scanner, film, developer or development.

Nice pic so just keep doing the same thing working on composition etc.

You will go nuts checking every developer. Use full strength for nice grain, 1:3 for real grainy and sharp and 1:1 in between. I only use homemixed D76 now for everything. The only fil it doesn`t like is Delta 400 at 1:1.

Expose at 200 and cut developer time 20% and you will like it even more.
