I'm sorry but sometimes I understand something but I don't belive what I have understood , if I put a 50 mm viewfinder in a 6x9 folder 105 mm I'll see the good frame ???

supposedly a viewfinder for 50 mm lens on small format camera (35 mm) should have the same field of view as viewfinder fir 105 mm lens on 6x9 camera as being both of so called normal view for respective formats.

You will see more than what will get caught in the negative.

It all comes down to "angle of view". A 50mm MF lens covering 6x9 is roughly equivalent to 28mm on a 35mm lens, with an angle of view of about 75-80 degrees (this depends highly on the lens maker and the specifications put on the lens design).

So, with your viewfinder, you may have 80 degrees of angle of view, but if your camera is carrying a 105mm lens, the negative will capture around 45 degrees of angle of view.

In other words, the negative will only have about half (more or less the center) of the image that you see through the viewfinder.

Technically, the equivolent to a 50mm lens in 35mm format is @ 117mm I believe in 6x9. A 105mm lens on 6x9 is about 45mm on 35mm.

I use a 50mm finder on my 6x9 folder though, it is close enough.

OK, maybe I misunderstood. If the viewfinder is from a different format, as Timor pointed out, then it may be the case that both show more or less the same image.

If you are using a finder from a 35mm camera that has a 50mm lens, then I think you would get very close to the correct view. Someone willl correct me if I am wrong, but I think 35mm and 6x9 are the same aspect ration. If they are not, you would probably off a bit.

A good way to check is to open the back and put a ground glass or wax paper cut to size. Open the shutter and check what you get vs what shows up in the viewfinder. Put one edge of each on a verticle line like a wall or doorway to help. Then look to see what the other edge 'sees.' Or, just record what you see in the viewfinder on a piece of paper, again lining up on a wall if possible, and shoot a roll of b/w to see what shows up on the film.

A 50mm lens on a 35mm camera is somewhat longer than the "classic" normal lens. A "classic" normal lens on 35mm would be about 43mm.

105mm is the "classic" normal lens for a 2-1/4 x 3-1/4 (6x9) negative. Therefore the 50mm viewfinder will show a bit less than the negative does. In fact, it will show about the same as the build in veiwfinder does, because it allows something extra for poor framing and the fact that commercial prints are usually slightly cropped compared to the negative.

In other words it ought to work just fine.

Someone willl correct me if I am wrongof b/w to see what shows up on the film.
