Both have nominally the same 8mp resolution, f 2.2, 1.5µ pixel size as the 5s, but apparently a new sensor, one that supports "focus pixels" another words, PDAF
the 6 Plus has optical image stabilization, the 6 has digital stabilization
the video specs are upgraded also
How's the crowd feel ? Meh ? good camera upgrade ?

I have to see and play a little bit with one of the new iPhones in a shop to see if I like the new bigger size. So far the biggest advantage for me when comparing iPhone and the larger Android smartphones was the smaller size of the iPhone (model 5 that I have), which easily slips into a jeans pocket. I am also interested to see if the new iPhone 6 or 6+ can easily be used with one hand only as can the iPhone 5.

I run with my phone in my hand, which isn't the best idea, but I use a GPS app to track my progress, and take photos from time to time. I could get an arm band, but was afraid it would bounce, now it becomes harder to carry, but with better batter life and gorgeous screen.

I like the larger sizes as I do a lot of reading on my iphone, but 5.5 may be too large to use with 1 hand..will see. The camera/video upgrades are definitely a plus. Not crazy about upgrading right as they come out, so it will be a few months before I check it out.

I'll be getting the 6+, and in so doing, I suspect my iPad Mini will be retired.

yes - I had the same thought, if I get the 6+, which I'm leaning towards, the iPad mini is on the market

6+ w/128gb.
I'll wait until it's in stock... prolly november.
This is the one "Ive" waited for
With wifi apps running and capable of backing up cameras now... it's a natural fit for a photog.

I buy an iPhone to have a communications device in my pocket.
I buy a camera to make photographs with.
They're not the same thing. ;-)

I am thinking about the 6+ and retiring my iPad Mini. But it all depends on how it'll feel in the hand and how usable it is one-handed. If not, I'll get the 6 and keep the mini.
Definitely an exciting morning to wake up to!

p.s. I do use my iPhone as a camera as I sold off all my digital gear when I moved to film, and I prefer to only shoot with film when I really think I have a chance of snapping something good. For all else where I just want a memory, I use the iPhone. The iPhone is also my light meter with the little Lumu. This reminds me, I'll drop an email to Lumu to see what they think about iPhone 6 (+) compatibility with their light meter...

Agreed they are not the same thing.
A phone that can potentiate ones camera is not to be ignored.
I mean a computer is not a camera either is it

A general purpose computer is certainly not a camera. It has no lens mount.
I suspect you're making some thinly-veiled 'funny' about digital cameras. It's rather weak. If you prefer to shoot with film cameras and want to consider a cell phone the ultimate camera, that's fine by me.
It makes no sense but that's your business.

I work with film and digital cameras. I don't make photos except when I want to make photos... And I don't use cell phone cameras unless I have nothing else at hand that will do the job. Or unless I am specifically working against the creative constraints of a limited image capture system for a particular intent. I want my memories to have the full richness that a camera can provide, not the limited cruft that a cell phone can achieve.I am thinking about the 6+ and retiring my iPad Mini. No dude you completely missed it!
My comment has nothing to do with F vs D dead horse beating.
My point is these phones (as well as others) are beginning to have the potential to be far more than a communication device when combine with a camera.
Just as a computer is such.
I don't give a wit about the camera in the new phone.
The new screen and processor plus larger storage at lady combine with, ... new apps to control my cameras and edit....
Very exciting potential is at last growing up.
Cheers!

I am with you and am not against digital in any way. But this helped me focus on film, which is something brand new I started 9 months ago without prior exposure to it.
For sending quick snaps of my 4yo son to my family who live 9000km's away, the iPhone is good enough. In fact, the iPhone 5 was already surprisingly good for a phone, hoping the 6 would be even better. I also take it underwater with a case so it serves that purpose too. When I go out to take pictures I go with a film camera.
Again, whatever works for each individual I guess...

sounds like quality trumps quantity, when talking about pixels in Apple cameras.
been doing my random camera snaps with Nexus 5 8mp camera and haven't reached the point where more pixels would solved anything.

I hate big phones... I wish my next phone could be the size of the iPhone 4s!
But we're discussing what is likely the most popular camera in the history of the world... It's silly to say "it's not a camera," because that's not true. It's the future of cameras, no matter what us photo snobs think... But soon enough it'll start to put some camera companies out of business, and then we'll sit up and take notice!

For me, the iPhone could be 40MP full frame, and it's still going to be horrific to use compared to a $50 film compact.
Image quality is reasonably easy to come by, a usable device (for photography), far less so.

Excited.
Excited to use one for picture taking. I'm amazed by the quality of my current phone's (iPhone 5) ability to produce a decent 8"x8" image.
If this upcoming 6 is as fast in operation as they claim then I'm in.

It would help if you wrote what you meant clearly enough to be understandable.
A computer is obviously a useful adjunct to a camera, if you do image processing or camera control. It is just as obviously not a camera itself.
An iPhone or other smartphone is just as obviously a useful adjunct to a camera. The fact that it has a camera in it is useful but it, the iPhone, is not a camera. I would no more buy an iPhone specifically because it has a camera than I would buy a Leica M9 because it has a clock in it. I can use the camera, and the clock, when I need it, but neither is the primary purpose of the device.
Capisco?

I quaiplify for a subsidized upgrade from a 5. I'm waiting for the first time in recent iPhone release cycles.
o I hope there a version the same size as the 5S will be released next year.
o I just want the thing to fit in all my pants/shirts pockets
o I do want the 50X increase in CPU speed and wireless purchasing hardware. I happen to know major US financial corps were waiting for Apple to support NFC. Widespread tap to pay will be common sooner than we think.
o. I do not care very much about the camera/video.
Maybe there will never be a smaller iPhone released. in that case I'll just keep what I have for as long as possible.
