open discussion - iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

The phone itself is fantastic otherwise, the usual Apple built quality, none of the plasticy monkey business from other makes.
What are you talking about? There is no "plasticy monkey business" with my Sony Xperia Z - a lot of glass, yes - even more, it is waterproof, unlike your fantastic Apple iPhone 6

Yes sorry, the Sony is indeed amazing. I live in Japan so I see a lot of them around and if it wasn't for the fact it's android, I would have ended up with one a while back. I just prefer iOS.

I bought the 6 Plus - mainly for the Apple Pay but I also like the super slow-mo video and the image stabilization on the camera.

Having played with both I'm still torn. It will be used as the ultimate all-in-one... so initially I was thinking Plus, but the 6 (not Plus) just fits the hand better.

...then I viewed the camera in square format on the Plus. Wow. Like looking at a 6x6 E6 neg.
Torn.

Hey there,

I was the same, placed the pre-order for the iPhone 6+ and thought in store when picking up, I can change my mind. Then as it turns out, they just shipped the phone to our billing address so I had no chance in saying no. Just before it arrived, I walked to the local apple store in Ginza to hold it as I couldn't wait, and I immediately thought I should have opted for the 6 instead.

However, having had it for 2 days now, I must say it's growing on me. It's ridiculous huge but it feels great as a 1 device between the original iPhone (sizewise) and the iPad Mini which I'll now soon retire and put up for sale.

Good luck!

Ben

p.s. The 6+ while is pocket-able (barely), it will definitely not work in your front pocket with the headphones plugged in.

The best photos my phone took are the ones that could not have been taken on anything else because I did not have anything else. I'd never use it as a primary camera, but reserve the right to change that when I feel like it! Until then, having an imaging device in my pocket, as part of a phone/email device, is very handy. I use mine for shopping more than anything else, or as an imaging notebook/recorder. Every now and again it plays a more important role: http://www.thomasstanworth.com/album/west-to-east?p=1&s=UA-10634171-1

I got my 6+ and the snaps are really not bad and yes I retired my iPad mini and gave to my happy wife. Very useful for what I normally do with my iPad; emails (lots), text messages and FB. A bit unwieldy but with a folio case dropping the phone is somewhat minimised.

Just replaced my 4s with a 6plus.
The 6 plus camera with the "Camera +" app is fantastic.
I know have available manual focus, manual exposure, manual ISO plus wb control.
The editor within the Camera Plus App is akin to adjusting from a RAW file.
This feels like a very complete camera now.
Frankly I'm shocked.

I'm due to switching over to an iPhone 6 from my S4.
It was a prize for my dad for some bank deposit, amusingly the day of the draw was his birthday, and there you go, he won it. As he isn't interested on phones he will pass it to me.

I've been looking into the 6 photo and video capabilities. And it seems very interesting. Oh, not only that, the ecosystem has interesting apps for photography. It can be a nice reflective meter with the Light meter app. Good for unmetered camera shooting.
A curious to me fact is that a 1/3" sensor is very approximately the same in size as a super8 frame.

I use my phone a lot for snapshots, and it works alright as the "camera you always have". I wouldn't rely just on it for purely photographic doings (I tried twice with my S4 and wasn't that satisfied) but it's nice to have some shooting coverage always.

The S4 IMO outclasses cheap small sensored P&S, and I understand why it has wiped them out. I'd run for an RX100 if I could however.

as of camera vs phone, the phone takes a lot lot of frames of my daily business. I like that it is inconspicuous like no other camera and thanks to this I've documented some interesting daily contexts.

I like too that a good phone snapshooter allows me to concentrate more on my film shooting and being a sidekick and an assisting device (metering). Sometimes digital feels "in between" as the phone has outstanding sharing capabilities and film has the aesthetic and longer term workflow, my m43 (which I rather put out of service after a lens breakdown) feels a bit out of place, as I shoot digital for convenience.

The 6+ is ridiculously large, but I think it would make a nice pair with my Fuji GW690 :D

I chose the 6 over the 6+, the + was just a little too big for my hands. The 6 is a perfect size, great for reading iBooks in bed, which can be a little unwieldy with the iPad Air 2. I was a little worried at its slimness and slickness, as I found it quite easy to mishandle, but I bought a nifty case (complete with a kickstand) to protect it. This does make it less pretty, though.

I also like that I can now answer my telephone and make calls on my iPad through the iPhone. This is very handy.

I think that the camera is excellent, and it performs especially well in low light. I really need to use it more often, but have not yet come to the point that I remember that I now always have a quality camera on my person.

My best iPhone pic to date:

Not sure if this is much use to this thread but here it goes anyways.

This past weekend I saw an 11x14 print I thought was a mind blowing great photo. Upon asking which ridiculously expensive Leitz lens they used to capture it I was told it was on an iPhone. An iPhone 5 that is!

Nevertheless the 6+ I have is a fantastic camera - my only digital camera I use nearly every day for quick snaps. Perfect for sharing / keeping memories. For all else there's Black and White film!
