Dear Mr. Kobayashi,

as Voigtlaender enthusiast with great respect for Cosina's manual focus lens offerings in Leica M mounts, I am writing to express a desire to see a new Bessa R-D2 or a R-D1x on the European/International photographic market.

Sincerely

Wow what a compelling argument. Did you want another 1.6 crop camera with a more up to date sensor or something else? It would be helpful to state that. I want a RD-FX that has a Nikon D700 sensor in it. I'd buy 5.

...and a pile of telecentric WA lenses so that you can actually illuminate the corners of the frame?

No, a thiner IR filter like the M9 has with no AA filter would be a possibility, but I'd prefer an AA filter as well. I mean if I wanted to deal with all of the issues I'd just make the camera. I'm just getting on the band wagon to get a free lunch from Mr. K .

I'm sure if they see a market they will go for it. They are a business and like to make money.

However, I'm not sure if there is a big market for another high crop factor DRF. So now they have to invest money to design a camera with a larger sensor and be able charge enough to make it worth their while.

I would like it, I hope he goes for it. I have those DSLRs, and I bought the smallest I could find: Pentax, but I would rather have an Bessa R sized RF. One I could use my older lenses and even buy a few new ones from Cosina. They are in business and new products are the name of the game, so expand with something different. They can never beat the big boys in the P&S market. How about an EVIL with M-mount?

Like the rest of you, I'd like it too. But given the engineering challenges of a FF sensor faced by Leica and Kodak (not just the IR and AA filters, but eccentric microlenses!), I'm not holding my breath.

Hopefully there'll be some quantum leap in sensor technology in the near future that will allow/encourage Kobayashi san to make the move into digital at a price that will rock Leica's foundations!

a little competition in that arena wouldn't hurt.

Why not buy the rights to what work konica had underway for a digital hexar. Then find someone else entirely to design the shutter button.

Epson Man' has spoken!

How much would you be prepared to pay for a full frame version of what you already have Joe ... seriously?

i seriously have no idea.

i spent $2900 on 2 rd1 bodies, one being an s body, both being in prime shape.

an rd2, full frame, maybe 12 mp and a bit more 'modern'...would be nice, for sure but only if they didn't change the things i love about the rd1.
that being the rewind lever, the absolutely beautiful colours that come out that machine, the instant update round funky dial.

why not use the exchangeable one way sensors with extended DR (12 EV or more) that come in those cute little rolls?

They're dead ... haven't you been paying attention? :p

Nice to have a digital alternative for those who cant be bothered with those 'cute little rolls' though! :D

Kobayashi san is in a rather difficult situation here because he's on record as stating he'll never manufacture a digital camera ... well he did and it was called the Epson!

I'm sure if Zeiss gave Cosina a set of designs for a full frame DRF he'd oblige again if the price was right.

I didn't know that Konica was working towards that. Where can I find more information?
