The illuminated window plate of my 7 is loosen. I need to glue it but I cannot open the top cover even I got the repair manual. I just do not understand the diagram and which screws shall be loosen and make the cover open.
Could anyone of you help me?
Thanks in advance.

This is from memory as I haven't done this in years. Basically you have to remove the film advance lever, the shutter speed dial, the rewind crank, the flash socket and several attachment screws. Not terribly hard, but a bit fiddly in spots. The repair manual actually makes sense once you start to take the camera apart. Just take your time and take notes as to what goes where when you come to something confusing. Good luck.

If you cannot salve the screw then you need to wait for some one to donate a part. How much damage have you done to the screw?

Send it into DAG. He'll have parts. Or describe it and he'll sell you one.

How on earth did you break the screw? It is a tough part.

The top is easy to get off, although you do need a few special tools. How far have you gotten?

A friendly watch maked might make you a new screw if there are no machine parts factors to hand. If you have a small vice could you rework the remains of the screw?

Some one must have a parts Canon?

The screws in Japanese cameras are typically all normal metric screws. I suspect that these are M1.0 size. Ideally take a small metric screw of the right size, point the end with a file, cut off the head, and cut a slot with a slitting file or jeweler's saw. Not hard with a modicum of hand tools.

Taking off the shutter speed dial is tricky. Two screws are short, one is long. I think you only loosen all three. The short ones are only accessible at one ASA setting each, loosen them very little. They can't be out too far, or you won't be able to change the ASA setting, which you have to do. The long one is always accessible, it can come out a bit more. The long one is always through the slot in the ASA dial/gear, and keeps that dial from rotating more than 180 degrees relative to the shutter speed knob.

I know that DAG had at least one of the long screws, since my 7s came with a short one there, due to muddling by some previous repair person. He replaced it when adjusting the focusing and meter on my 7s.
