Opinion on leather cases

I've been using a new to me S3 2000 olympic edition, which I've been really enjoying, for a few months. However, I each time I change rolls of film i get more and more anxious about the non-replacable film back.

I'm thinking if I need a leather case to give a bit more protection?

I've dented a M3 bottom plate during my first year shooting with a leica. That was a very long time ago and I haven't damaged anything else since then. But the anxiety is still there.

I use anti anxiety pills when needed. Works great.

Protection is a hand or neck strap. Change film or lenses over a bag, sitting on grass or bench. Handle only one item at a time.

You must remove the back to change films : the leather case will be another item to handle during the operation, and will just increase the risk of dropping the back.

Leather cases also may reduce eye relief, especially noticeable for those who wear glasses, because it possibly pushes the pupil further away from the camera. True for most cases. Not sure about Nikon stuff.

Far as wear and tear, a camera is a tool. Each scratch or rub tells a story. At least that's how I see it, and I've put plenty of minty vintage cameras through their paces.

I don't think a Nikon S3 2000 will ever be a collectible camera. Too little interest and too many of them were made.

I love the Mr. Zhou case on my Leica M7...it offers a good grip at a good price.
