will they sell easily?
will the price stay about the same or are we looking at a drop?

or maybe an increase if they become a 'classic' cam?

Refurbs were around $750 - they've just sold out. But I suspect they'll hold at $700 or so - maybe that's wishful thinking, as an owner. I won't upgrade - unless I get a convenient commission to use as an excuse...

As with all new models, there is no reason to upgrade. If you're still using the X100 at this point, it means you are satisfied with it. The release of a new model doesn't make your X100 instantly worse.

They will drop in price for sure once the X100s is available. Then again, they are already pretty low on the used market.

I will sell mine once I obtain the X100s. I will sell mine for lower than the current used price because it has a lot of marks, scratches, etc and about 20,000 shutter accuations. Too many shelf queens out there for me to obtain maximum used prices. ;)

I don't agree. Making my favorite camera even better by adding faster AF, useful manual focus modes, more MPs, higher ISO availability, and a better EVF? Yes, this will make my X100 instantly worse in comparison.

Hehe, I had to smile about the 'classic' cam line which price will increase. It is what many people claimed it would be when it was first released.

But to be honest you really have to do something really different to become a 'classic' digital camera (like a rewind lever, grain like noise in a p&s or a faulty IR filter which happens to be beneficial for b&w). Which btw did not bring about any magical price increase in the used market. And looking like a rangefinder doesnt count, especially if it's not the only one that does.

Basically the x100s is very nice, well made camera. The price will sink as fast as the Sony 5n, which was also quite a nice camera. Actually its been going down steadily already.

They are all instantly *** after X100s is release, please, send all of your obsolete, useless X100's to me. :)

The X100s does enough stuff better than the X100 to make it appealing as an upgrade.

I had an X100 last February for a few months and sold it (mostly because of the AF issues) - I just recently bought a black one because the price was so nice and I wanted to give it a second shot. It was a great decision - I'm loving the camera now (I think I "get" it now) so I don't see a reason to upgrade. Maybe by the end of next year when used prices dip again.

No idea on price changes. I will not sell mine even if i try out and then purchase the new camera (doubt it).
The x100 has taken the place of my M8 as the camera I use when I only need a small file.
I used it almost exclusively to construct a real estate website for a client last summer. Many of the work-ups were huge stitched Panos.
The x100 was a champ and I benched the xpro-1 and 5Dii for the job.
The "light weight" yet extremely high quality RAW files were a true blessing.
I think this will factor in for the "classic" x100 and some folks will pursue them on the used market for this reason.... stabilizing the demand and price. (some PJ's, event shooters, etc....)

x100 was already dropping because of the X-E1.

It will drop further. More supply of used, less demand.

It's very frustrating when a new camera is announced; how many more times will the one I own suddenly create worse images than it did the day before? Really tired of this.

:)

I am seeing used X100's go for about $600 on eBay. I think this is lower than it used to be but I am not sure if already related to the release of the X100s.

+1. However, as you know ;) it won't suddenly start taking bad pictures and once we get our heads around that .............

I wouldn't buy one to make money :), but if you use it for a year and the resale value drops by $250, that is only $20 per month - a burger and a beer (?). I think that's a good deal. I've had mine since May 2011 and lost about £500 in resale value, but even that is only £25 per month - a modest meal for two without alcohol. I have no plans on selling mine and there is nothing about it that causes me any dissatisfaction, quite the contrary. Every time I pick it up I just want to go out and use it. I think its value far outweighs the cost.

Seems like a lot of X100 users are upset by Fuji releasing a newer model 2 years later. I'm not at all. If they deliver what they claim to deliver, I will be very happy. AND I can still sell my old one after a lot of use and fun. Win, win for me and Fuji. ;)

I see that many of the current owners of the "old" x100 are extremely happy with it. I have been researching this camera and watching the price drop slowly.
Many retailers are already listing this "old" version as out of stock or discontinued. I am really interested in getting one but am now wondering if I should just bite the bullet and wait for the X100s.
The other camera that I sue regularly is a Canon xTi that I use with an old Ricoh fixed lens and with most setting on manual.

I mostly just take pictures of rocks for Geology. A lot of close ups with very few distance shots. I am not always happy with the clarity of the DSLR.

Thoughts on this?

The price will drop slowly but surely until the X100S is released.

Then the price will stabilize. I would guess a bare X100 would be going for $450 to $500 by this summer. That would be about $350 of depreciation per year for early adapters.

I may sell mine here late this summer. I may wait until the XPro-2 hits the streets which I guess will be late fall this year. Or, I may just sit tight and enjoy my X100 and XP1 with the new XF primes. Obviously I am not highly motivated to upgrade.

Not me, I'm just pleased they released the X100. It is very close to my ideal camera. I may well upgrade at some point, but I doubt it will be in the first wave. In the meantime I'm quite happy with what I have.

as usual, i am unsure what direction i will take...i doubt that i can afford new lenses for the x-boys as well as the new 100s...but if/when the x100 drops to a really attractive price i might not be able to resist.

No digital cameras will ever become Classics. All disposable goods born from recycled supermarket bags and definitely bound to become plastic bottles one day :)

As always, I have no clue what the mass market will do. (But that won't stop me from postings here :D).

If the X100s really delivers, we are looking at a very nice step in a "cult-ish" camera. If the X100s skips a few beats on its promises, I think the X100 then becomes the cult darling over the long haul.

Personally I hope the X100s delivers on the promises, so I can buy one in 2014 when the marketplace says they are "old tech" and the price drops to pocket change ;), so then my X100 takes it's place in the cabinet between the Hexar and the Digilux-2.

I'm fantasy-zing what the "one-camera, one-lens" population could do with the Fuji X**** design over the next few decades.
