Opinions Please, on this 85mm f1.5 Canon LTM

That will probably work just fine, Thanks for the links. The original hood for the 85mm f1.5 is vented I see, but I don't know if it will intrude into the view of M2 and M5. Tis a Big 'Un.

The original hood for the 50/1.2 is a pain in the whahoo. I would rather have a plain lens hood that is not so bulky. The Canon S60 works just great for the 85/1.5.
As for why I would get a 85/1.5, my goal was to get a lens that has potential for asisting me in getting different looking images from a 90mm Summicron or Canon 85/1.9 or Elmarit 90/2.8. I will most likely still favor the classic Nikkor 105/2.5.

"I really like the painterly way the Canon 85/1.5 draws wide open on the M8's sensor."

Yes Sir, I agree completely. It looks very painterly, on film, as well. Trittium's pix on Flickr convinced me completely. OK, so it's big, but the in-focus parts (not much!) look plenty sharp enough for me. It seems to draw differently than any of my other lenses of I already own of similar focal length, so I'm -in-.

i personally think its nearest competition is the 73mm Hektor, about the same bokeh, wonderfull.
the summarex is also pretty but in a diffrent way

If I had any cash whatsoever I would buy that 85 from Igor AND his 50mm 1.2.

The 85mm f1.5 seems to be a rare lens, I don't see that many of them. Igor's lens is a teeny-bit cleaner than mine (not much, but it still has a rather-heavy swipe across the aperture ring) but overall looks very nice. Mine has some very minor brassing of the edges of the aperture ring, that I don't care about. I have not seen any of these 85mm 1.5 lenses without minor cleaning marks, and some dust. I guess that goes with being 50 years old, BTW I'll be 50 next month 😱

EDIT: I just bought a Canon T-60-2 Lenshood, for $16 from Adorama in NYC. So, Now I am done, for a bit. Thanks Everybody!

The S60 will work very well with the 85/1.5.

Maybe I got lucky, but my 85/1.5 looks very clean. I do not see any marks on it anywhere. The previous owner may have been extra careful with it.

This thread made me use such a lens with two rolls of film this weekend. It is a lens that still can be used hand held, but it is not light.

I'm sure everybody here will want to see the results from those two rolls. My new Canon 85mm f1.5 (and original Canon slim Skylight filter) are shipping today. Also shipping is my new Canon S60 lenshood from Adorama. Maybe I should put a wider strap on my two cameras (I like and have extra Domke Gripper Straps) 😀

The Canon T-60-2 Lenshood arrived today from Adorama (a deal at $16) and in very decent condition, although a bit dirty and slightly oxidized on the inside. I think it will clean-up very well, for it's age. It's a plus that the hood part screws off, to take a Series VIII filter. BTW I also have the silver 85mm "Torpedo" Canon finder, I think that will work pretty well with this lens, although I can also use 90 framelines in both my M's.

My new 85mm f1.5 Canon is slated to arrive here Monday, from Phoenix Arizona. So now I will have my Canon LTM triad; the 35mm f2, the 50mm f1.2, and now the 85mm fl.5.

Yes, this is a nice trio. My trio would be : Canon 35mm/1.5, 50mm/1.2, 85mm/1.5. For different character, having the Canon 50/1.5 and the 35mm/2.8 also would be great. I don't have the 50/1.5 yet. It is "on my radar", as they say.

Call him, I know he will be around this weekend, he has been out of town a lot recently, he told me he just bought a lot of Canon -- perhaps an estate? I have not seen this, he got it after the last show, and there is another show, I think the 19th. There may be more he has not had time to list.

He is pretty conservative in grading.

At the shows all kinds of stuff shows up, many times in a box of unrelated gear, kind of like a treasure hunt, most of the time, others find the treasures. ;-)

I have a bunch of Graflexes, I think they follow me home, and a guy came in with yet another huge box, so I passed, but in the bottom there were SM Canon accessories, including a few I am told were worth more than the entire box price. I sometimes pick up pieces for a friend in Germany, he collects everything Canon, and Campus Camera had a box of NOS accessories I shipped over to Berlin. Those finds seem to be fading.

I talked with him today, he has been burning the candle at both ends, as do I when I work all day Saturday, it seems to wear me down more, sign of age?

He does not list everything, but he will list certain things for a long time, are you checking his site, or ebay?

John
