My Leica IIIa works nice, but it needs some attention (mechanical wear, cladding needs work, proper calibration). What are good addresses to turn to in Europe?
I've searched past threads but with some of them I'm not even sure if they're still in business :-/

Europe is not a country! Where are you located? We have several in Sweden, there are people in UK and of course Will van Manen in Netherlands.

Belgium, so pretty much anywhere in Europe is the same thing

Thanks! Didn't think to check the M forum.

In the UK Malcolm Taylor is well respected. I have used Peter at CRR (Luton), he is only contactable by phone and is often very busy. Newton and Ellis (and for that matter many others) will do the mechanical side very well but I don't know about cosmetics etc.
Everyone has their favourites, mine is Peter.

I've never heard of anyone using them, but you could give these guys a call:

Since you don't mind shipping, you could also go with Youxin Ye, he's very fast and well known. Marking the package as "returned for repair" or similar usually keeps the customs away, at least for us in Sweden.

Options for a CLA and repair
Hi all. My first post here - I'm not much of 'poster', I'm afraid. However, I'd like to gladly seize the opportunity to praise the meticulousness of Will van Manen and Cathy Kuiper. I recently had two Leicas M3, one M2 and a 1937 IIIa plus a couple of lenses serviced by them. They were all in a pretty good shape, I thought, but when I got everything back, it felt as if both cameras and lenses (Cathy is particularly good with lenses) had just left Wetzlar. The IIIa has become a precious little jewel again.
Will and Cathy are absolutely world-class and on top of that they are very nice people (remembering a warm welcome and an aromatic cup o'coffee).
There is no doubt in my mind that they are the twosome I'll continue to entrust my gear to.
Cheers,
Leo
BTW: RFF is top and (mostly) very instructive. Congrats !

There'd have been coffee if I'd driven up there myself? Now you tell me!

Hi. I am pretty sure there would be some coffee brewn up... I think it's recommendable to meet people in the flesh (if at all possible) and to see them work in their natural biotope. No doubt you would be pleased visiting Will van Manen's and Cathy's workshop and so would they, having the opportunity to comment in detail the job to be done.
FYI: PCH Brussels is outsourcing quite a few repairs to them.
Cheers,
Leo

I recently had Will and Cathy fix up a Rollei 35S up for me. It had been in fully working condition when I dropped it, which broke the light meter. When it came back to me it was not only fixed and converted to 1,5 v batteries (as requested) but also works so well that it is hard to believe it is the same camera. In the past they have also done a major overhaul on my M6 (calibrated the shutter speeds, replaced the leather, changed to M3 wind lever, etc.), and cleaned up a foggy 90 tele-elmarit as well. Fantastic work every time.
Cheers,
Rob
