Please tell me if I have this right...it is that little rangefinder filter.

ORAKO comes in two different sizes.

One is smaller for the earlier II, III, and IIIa, it has a part number of 14057.

The other is for IIb, c, f, IIIb, c, f. It is bigger and has a part number of 14058.

They are both called ORAKO??
 
One is called ORAKO is for the pre-war cameras
The other is called OKARO, for the IIIc and post-war cameras

Don't worry; it affects us all at times and comes from looking at too many posts on ebay and slowly being contaminated by the weird things they (sellers) say when trying to sell you something they don't quite understand or know about. A good example is the Olympus Trip 35 always being described as a RF and people believing it and spreading it about. I've read it so often I shall be thinking it soon...

I have one of these, but:(

I do not know which it is OKARO or ORAKO

is there an easy way? maybe a measurement?:confused::confused:
 
The early Leica II has an OKARO - or ORAKO - built in, but then in yellow. The FODIS and FOFER rangefinders have those too.

For people that are used to their Leicas these expensive little filters are totally useless.

David, very true, these days I seem to be 'running down the can' or 'kicking the clock down the road' so I don't really know where I am.

How to tell the difference? One fits and the other doesn't. (Helpful aren't I?).

Now, I just need an older ii without the ORAKO/OKARO built in and a nice iiF.

Erik, I'm doing quite well, in the last week I've found homes for OZXVO, OSBLO, ELDIA (finally!), half a Contax and some ltm shutter guards. I'll get down to the bottom of the box of bits in time.

It occurred to me that if I got run over by a bus (if I could find a bus) then all this stuff would get junked because nobody would know what it was. Better to pass it on to someone who wants it before I completely forget the code names!

(Better not talk about current sales, that would be advertising and against the spirit of the form.)
 
I was given an ORAKO a year ago. Have no need for it really.
If your RF half-mirror is bad enough that you need to use these filters, it's probably better to get a new half-mirror installed anyway. ;)
