Well my initial M8 experience was not so great with an out of alignment RF and a really dirty sensor that didn't clean easily. But you know what? I went out to shoot with my D200 the other day and it is so big and heavy now that I've gotten used to the R-D1 that it just wasn't *fun.*
So I'm gonna try again! It doesn't hurt that I have some unexpected cash coming in either!
Likely I'll keep the R-D1 as a "back-up" body for the M8 (assuming of course this one's a keeper!)

Did the 'not as much fun' include not as good image quality? I would think so, after viewing some of the M8 images on the web.

Yeah I've been considering the WATE.
Where did you order it and how long is the WAIT for the WATE expected to be?

So here's a question for the list:
I have a 1963 DR Summicron 50/2 that won't mount on an M8. I really do like this lens a lot and would find 50mm useful on the M8.
I'd be very happy with a more modern 50/2 cron, there just seem to be so many variations that I'm not sure what to look for.

Can't we get our old DR 50mm Summicrons modified to work on our M8's? Perhaps just the use of a file on some protruding little flange on the lens? Anyone?

that would be about 66mm on an M8 right?Joe Mondello said:would find 50mm useful on the M8.

Yup.
Seen some 1970s era 'crons for $6-700.

Why does a watched battery never seem to finish charging!?!?!?! ;-)

Second M8 seems much better than the first. Sensor is dirty (which I really DON'T expect with a brand new camera) but far less dirty than the first one.
BIG dif is focusing which is spot on where the 1st one backfocused quite a bit.
New one came with 1.092 instead of 1.09 and I've just upped it to 1.102
All in all this one feels right.
BTW my humble CV lenses look like they will do quite well on the M8 if the few shots I've taken at my desk are any indication.
It IS better the "second time around" as Sinatra used to say!
