Original Voigtlander Nokton 50mm F1.5

I can't find the original thread regarding this, so whoever is moderating may of course move this post there.

I'd like to mention that the Nokton 50mm F1.5 for LTM on eBay (item #7626231317) just sold for $1,913.00.

Can someone please tell me why this lens is so coveted ! Is it is simply an indication of its rarity ? I assert that there is no way a lens from the 50's could merit this kind of money based on its optical performance.

Rarity. There simply are not many LTM copies of the Nokton available because so few were made in the 1950s... If you have one and enjoy using it, then why not?

Yep, and some collectors are willing to pay $2000 - $3000 for one 😱

Per wlewisiii's post, the high price is mainly because of its rarity, but the 1950s Nokton also happens to be a darn good lens, 1 of the best "classic" fast 50mms, right up there w/the Zeiss 50/1.5 Sonnar, Nikon 50/1.4 Nikkor-S, Canon 50/1.4, 1st version Leica 50/1.4 Summilux, etc. Not as many people are as familiar w/the Nokton because it was made primarily for Voigtlander's kludgy (IMHO) Prominent RF system. I think the LTM version of the Nokton might be more coveted than the even rarer Contax RF version because of the larger number of Leicaphiles.

FYI, I was 1 of the bidders who "lost" in the recent eBay auction. But I can live w/that, because I already have 1 (& it didn't cost me anywhere near $1913). 😀
