What kind of films do you recommend instead of the defunct ORWO NP 15, 20, and 27 films? The NP 20 was a very good film with terrific, silvery halbtones and good resolving power.

I just bought 225 sheets of outdated 6.5x9cm Orwo NP20, so I glad to hear that you like NP20. I am looking forward to trying it.

I will let you know if it is comparable to something I'm also using.

Have you seen Wephoto films? Aren't those made by Orwo?

film or paper

As I know according to the ORWO cookbook, Vephota was a kind of paper. See picture (in German).

For NP15 you can use Efke/Fotokemika 25. The difference is very small. However since 2012 also not in production anymore.

Vephota with V was a Tura paper, half a century ago. Wephota (a brand of b+g) is a successor of Turaphot, a smaller but (back then) export oriented GDR maker (Orwo subsidiary) of films and papers. They don't produce film or paper any more (except maybe for glass plates), but they do brand and market some Foma and Filmotec products, and offer confectioning services for the photographic industry. They may be the only ones in Germany that still have tools to cut and pack light sensitive glass plates.

I think you mean: Banse & Grohmann. They still have some N.O.S. OrWo in sheet film format.
And they still have a good connection to Foma in Hradec Kralové.
