This is Oslo today.......a war zone. The city where I live and breathe.
91 people killed and tens of people severely injured. All done by one man.
A right-wing extremist.

And I struggle to understand why............this used to be one of the most peaceful places on earth.

It's a sickness that tells a man that mindless violence will advance his cause.

I visited Norway once, many years ago. I've always thought it was among the most beautiful and desireable places I've seen.
 
You can imagine how calm and peaceful it must be in Norway if you look at the homicide rate. In 2010 there were round about 30 cases of homicide in the whole country. And now that.

Prayers to all people affected.

I am sorry that this sort of madness is creeping from messed-up nations like ours into sane and stable countries like yours.

May be inappropriate to mention in the aftermath of a horrific tragedy, but that is a great shot of the soldier. Hope you will take the opportunity to document as much as you can in the days ahead. This is a situation where a photographer serves as an historian.

I live in Oslo but I'm currently at my mom's. I literally can't put in to words how shocked I felt yesterday.

I originally wanted to travel in there with my camera today, but I decided against it.
 
Going back home there tomorrow after the holidays... I don't live very far from the explosion site so it'll be... interesting.
 
We were in Oslo last week, including close to where the bombings occurred. It's hard to imagine how this could happen, and I'm sure many Nowegians are wondering the same thing. My heart goes out to them. The death toll at the youth camp is horrific, too. No country should have to experience an "Oklahoma City moment."
 
Its still is peaceful , one day in a century hardly makes it different. Don't succumb to the media panic.
 
Norway was basically the first country I went on my own for summer vacation after finishing school. and I always memorized it as an extremely friendly and peaceful country. This is very sad indeed.
 
Christer, jag känner stor sorg för alla er som drabbats i Norge. Det verkar som alla svenskar går i ett chocktillstånd idag liksom ni gör i Norge.

I have had a sick feeling in my stomach ever since I read about this in the news. Absolutely unfathomable.

My sympathies to Norway and its people.
 
I just can't believe that one deranged man can cause so much strife. My wife and I were passing through Oslo the minute the bomb went off, and then hearing about the shootings. Not believing the initial death tolls of 10-15 people, and then waking up to over 90. Its surreal, this just doesn't happen in our country, I still can't quite fathom it. Norway is such a small country, this effects us all, everyone of us will have known one of the victims. I really feel for their families and loved ones.
 
One deranged man... with explosives and automatic weapons. He could not have done this with a club, or a broadsword, or a muzzle-loading musket; he'd have been swarmed at some point.

Ain't technology wonderful sometimes?
 
I first visited Norway as a student in 1975, and worked in Oslo for about six weeks a few years ago. My overwhelming impression is of a peaceful country with gentle, generous people. It is therefore doubly shocking that these terrible events should occur there.

In the last 24 hours I have written to some of my Norwegian friends and colleagues. Unsurprisingly, their replies show clearly that they, and their families and friends, are devastated by the dreadful events. I hope that, in some way, Norway can come to terms with the horror of all of this. Do take care. Nettar
