OT, I feel like such a Teenager!!!

daily commute

daily commute

You guys are gonna hate me... My morning routine consists of being up at 10 to 9, and throwing on clothes while the coffee is brewing... I take my bike down the elevator and then roll downhill 4 blocks to my lab... I'm here by 9am and barely need to open my eyes! Now on the way home... it's a tough life!

Heheheh, how about this: Ipod broke 5 months ago for no reason (dead HD, would cost more than a new one to fix) at the same time as my external HD, powerbook had to be formatted for still unknown reasons 2 months ago, PS2 died last year as well, TV crapped out a little later... Hope 2006 turns out better 😡

🙁 On december, 23 my d2h dead...it was only six mounth old, and week after a 120gb hd crashed for unknown reason... :bang: but lukly I've recovered most ofe the data with a recovery software and long time....
2006, please be better!!!!!
Carlo.

I got a 30gig video ipod that I use for;
- playing music,
- watching movies/tv-shows when flying,
- storing and displaying photos,
- synching with my Outlook Calendar,
- storing about 4-5 gig of files (as a portable drive)

8 minutes, 17 minutes, those arent' commutes. Try 1 hour and that's traveling in the HOV. IF I decide to slug myself, it is longer. All that supposes there are no problems on the road like an accident that ties up the entire HOV, or worse yet, one of our intersections that controls the main north/south route. 8/17 minutes indeed! It takes me that long to get to my car. :bang:

But I guess I deserve it. Many times in the Army I either lived at my work or only five to ten minutes away. Not so now.

hey, my commute doubled 2 years ago when my company relocated 10 blocks further 'downtown'.. as it was, I had to drive 2 blocks to get on the highway.. then 3 miles straight into town.. 2 blocks off the highway and I was at work.. 4 minutes unless the weather was bad.. then it was 6 minutes.. but now I have to drive an extra 10 blocks further down the highway, where I hit 4 stoplights.. doubling the commute while I sit at one or two lights

pity me

I couldn't place d2h for a while 😕. I thought it was like OMG or LOL or something. Heh heh...
How's that for staying away from the dark path?

My commute is like 10-15 minutes, and when I'm not interning and just going to school it may be as little as 0 😀. You know what I mean...

I drive an hour each way if there is no traffic. Not that bad as that is my warm up and cool down time. As soon as our lease is up where my office is we are moving 30 minutes north. That is very bad for almost everyone here, but i drive right past our future location twice a day and I can't wait for the move.

Ahh the IPOD, I use it to avoid obnoxious people at the gym so i can get out in a reasonable ammount of time. I have to say though, the headphones are a little flimsy.

I have an xbox, and I'm telling you, I can get lost in some of the games, though I find myself playing it less and less now that I live with my SO...if I thought I could get anything for it, i'd sell it for camera gear. It did help me through grad school though... 🙂

Speaking as a teacher I'd have to say that 80% or so of HS students come into class wearing an IPOD or simmilar device...drives me nuts! Maybe one day I'll wear mine and spend all day ignoring their questions 🙂

Now I think I realy do hate you 😉 . I just found out I have to install a drive at our DR site tomorrow. It is 57 miles from me. I will leave my house at 8:00am. Sit on the Beltway for at least 2 hours and hope to arrive by 10:00. It will take 5 seconds to install the drive. 10 minutes to make sure it rebuilds properly while I gulp a cup of coffee. Then it's back on the road for about 90 minutes to my office. Lunch time. Total work, 5 seconds. time in the friggin' car, 3.5 hours. :bang:

Traffic is so funny. My drive is 62 miles door to door and on a good day, like I said, I can drive it in an hour. Grizzz is driving 57 miles in 2 hours.

I figure in 15 years I will be done with the mortgage and college tuition and I will take a job bagging groceries in my town. (while listening to my 15 year old MP3 player 🙂)

Good grief rover, I have a Rio 500, how old is that? 5 - 6 years? And its as good today as the day I got it. My favies, apart from music is an audio subscription to the NY Times (downloaded at 6:30 every morning) - unfortunately I no longer have that; and match commentaries of my football team from my home town in Manchester, England. Just awesome!! 😀

I am ripping a bunch of CDs right now.

I couldn't have given the impression that I am technologically advanced at any point in time did I Peter?

I did carry the MP3 player in my bag next to my M3 today. I needed some old school stuff with me to keep me in my comfort zone.

I skipped the PS2. I did not like the MCA bus...

Every time my 10 year old Nephew comes over, he wants me to pull out the Atari 400 with Star Raiders. 16K of memory. 1MHertz 6502 processor.

nice! an atari 400 was my first computer, and star raiders was my favorite game! but i thought that there was no onboard memory for the 400. i used to have to put a cartridge in for that purpose ;-) the games had the memory built into the cartridges, but if i wanted to use my tape drive, or write basic...i had to use the memory cartrige (again, if memory serves)

I'm convinced that quality of gameplay is inversely proportional to processor speed and amount of memory. The best games I ever remember playing were on my old Commodore 64, which is still in my attic waiting for enough space to come out again! I feel no need for a PlayBox360Boy.

IIRC, NASA sent messrs Armstrong and Aldrin to the moon using a pair of 16K processors...

Jamie

i fully agree jamie! i used to love my c64. roadwar 2000 (hehehe), mail order monsters, and countless others. such good times, and way better gameplay than anything today!

i don't even own a "current" box. had a ps2 for a while, but gave it to my little brothers. it just doesn't do it for me. i'll have to download some roms here now. or hell...maybe i'll try and get a c64 set up!!

my current commute is however long it takes me to walk down the hall to my home-office 😀 our offices are in california, and i now live in ohio. when i was still in cali...it was 2.5 miles up the road. so i would walk along the beach (took about 45 minutes). otherwise...a 5 minute car ride. my wife had to commute into LA and it was an hour or so each way. yuck.

oh yeah...and iPods are cool!

This is a big technological step for me. I am a little afraid about hitting Napster or Rhapsody and downloading music. I may need to borrow a real teen to figure that out. 😎

My 14 yr old nephew had to get me to help him get iTunes to work with the iPod he got for Xmas.

In the process he "borrowed" all the mp3s on my HD! Apparently all the old stuff I like (e.g. Clash, New Order) and new stuff (e.g. FranzF) is all really hip with his crowd.

I am so cool!

It is. My 14 y.o. daughter has raided my Clash, Pixies, Ramones, X, etc. I dl'd a Dandy Warhols' album, and she snatched that too.
