OT: Motorcycle pictures

i thought you guys were kidding me for a minute.
were the silverwings a wanted item?

i got mine cause i did some long distance riding and wanted something more suitable for the long haul.
i liked the small backrest and bags.
the fairing was the same one made for the goldwing so it really was a tad too big and made handling the bike a chore at times.

i put in an air horn (complete with small compressor) and scared the hell out of vw's when i was in a pissy mood.
btw, i still have that jacket but no way it fits..🙂

Very nice bike, Joe. Do you ever wish you still had it? I put some miles on a friend's while in college and I loved it (I don't remember if his had a fairing or not, I rode it mostly around town). I saw one in town yesterday and it brought back fond memories.

every spring when i see the first riders out.
occasionally i think about getting another, but then i start to feel too old or i think about our short riding season.
with the price of gas going up daily maybe i'll get a scooter for next summer...😉

Here's a couple of my Bimota SB6, kitted out for the road and the track.

A hand built bit of Italian exotica, she was like a thoroughbred horse; frustrating as hell most of the time but another world when she decided to play. I had a real love hate relationship with this bike.

I sold her about 6 months ago when I moved away for work. I've had and still got some real nice japanese bikes but nothing got me quite like this thing 🙂
wow, I've never actually known anyone who owned a Bimota.. very nice bikes! I remember about 8 years ago when they were trying to engineer their own 500cc 2-stroke.. the V-Due.. I wanted one sooooo bad.. they were supposed to be the street legal equivalent of a 250cc Grand Prix bike.. about 365 lbs and 105 horsepower

but Bimota couldn't get the electronic fuel injection dialed in right and they permanently recalled every one sold (and there was a long waiting line of buyers)

a few collectors kept theirs, even tho they almost certainly don't run well.. perhaps their rarity has made the $22k price a good investment

I wanted one for the type of riding I wanted to do- which was long distance, open road kinda work. For that they were perfect- just like the Guzzi (which I eventually did buy) but sadly ALL bikes now pale in all tasks I'm likely to perform to the Honda ST1300...

🙂

I had the Honda CX500 which is a Silverwing without the fairing, panniers and topbox. Not the best looking or handling bike but it did manage to clock up over 350,000 miles with nothing but routine servicing! The only thing that broke was a speedo cable!

For 5-6 mos. a year, my primary profession is running motorcycle tours, here's two pictures from a recent shoot in Gaspe during a tour (R-D1, Canon 28/2.8) There was a journalist covering the tour for a magazine and I did some shooting for the piece as well.

1. BMW R1150R in the hills just above Perce, QB.
2. Honda VFR on 132 outside St. Annes-Des-Monts, QB

I mostly ride BMWs but love all kinds of bikes. The extra space at the top and bottom of the frame (first pic) is to allow text to run over the picture where and when needed.

This summer, I carried just the R-D1 and the very compact Canon 28/2.8 on tour. It was portable and great to work with. Still have four fall tours to lead.

Cheers,

Sean

How about you post some pictures of motorcycles... I know there are a bunch of us here who ride, so show me your stuff.
The last time I rode a bike was last autumn in Burkina Faso (West Africa). Not much of a bike really, just a moped (Peugeot P50 to be accurate)... The ride through huge fields of fully ripe sugarcane was quite an experience.
