My boss just gave me an old camera that he no longer uses. It's an Olympus OM10 with a 50mm f1.8. I play with it a bit and I'm already in love with it. It feels similar to my leica.

Do any of you have experience with this camera? And can you post pictures taken with Olympus lenses?

Thanks.

Olympus lenses are very nice. The OM10 was made by Cosina, and will do a good job with the lenses. It will shoot in aperture priority, unless you have the manual adapter for it. If you get a chance to handle an OM-1, very reasonably priced on the used market these days, you will find that it is even better-built, like your leica. Enjoy your new rig. 😉

This was taken with a 35/2 zuiko:

Yes...it is a very nice camera, especially if you have the converter to allow manual speeds. You may find the light seals bad in it, and if so, we can help take care of that. I have written instructions for re-sealing both the standard (chrome) model as well as the less common databack (black) model. You will find the instructions for the chrome model here: http://www.kyphoto.com/classics/sealreplacement.html I have not yet posted the databack instructions and a few others, but I'll e:mail them to anybody who needs them.

Look at Jane Bown's portraits. All she used (in 35mm) were an OM-1, 50mm, 85mm and tri-x.

Ray_g, thanks for the Jane Brown recommendation. She's cool. And modest. Hardly the self described 'hack' she claimed to be (to the Queen of England, no less!).

Also, a good resource for zuiko examples can be found at the pbase camera database.

Ray, your pinkhaired palmistry pundit picture piqued my interest for a particular reason; that he's using on his signs a freeware font I created called Black Chancery. I really enjoy seeing where and how it appears in public! 😎

I've used a few different OM bodies and the OM10 would be my least favorite. Primarily because it was designed as a semi auto and if you do have the manual adapter the speed dial isn't where I find it easy to use. I think it has the loudest mirror slap (of the OM range).
BUT it is a very compact SLR.
The attached shot below was taken with my wife's OM10 as my OM1's seals looked iffy at the time. Osawa(?) 80-200 zoom.

I love my OM1 almost as much as a rangefinder.

An OM10 was my first serious camera, and first SLR, bought new when they first came out. I still have it, but haven't used it much since discovering rangefinders. It's funny, but amongst the several cameras I own, it is the one that I can use with the least conscious effort when it comes to setting aperture and focussing the camera - it seems to be a perfect fit in my hands. I used it to shoot kodachrome almost exclusively, and found the aperture-priority auto-exposure system very good. I fixed the seals and mirror-cushion with the bits and instructions from one of Jon Goodman's kits - thanks Jon!
