The most interesting bit of information in this Zeiss post may be that they are developing their own distribution network. Hmmm . . .

That Braun SLR looks very much like a camera wearing the "Promaster" badge in the USA. I don't know who makes it.

I agree, I think it is a Chinese copy. Possibly from "Great Wall" or "Phenix" who makes the Dakota range of SLR cameras with Minolta MD and Pentax P/K mount. I believe they own old Minolta tooling and licensed the product from Minolta (the venerable X-370). Not a Cosina, darn it. But Cosina did pretty much cover the spectrum of lens mounts with the same basic body - Canon, Nikon, Contax/Yashica, Minolta, M42, Olympus. Uh, am I leaving anyone out? Maybe Konica or Ricoh, or did Ricoh have a Pentax P/K mount? Too long ago.

Seems the the Zeissians are once again thrilled at the CZ's "discovery" of a 50 year old lens mounting system. Product to be made by Cosina under strict supervision of Gernman gnomes (except when the latter are on one of their seven-week vacation holidays in Phuket!) 😎

Here we go again - the triumph of "wanna believe" over reality.

RJ: Braun produced a line of RFs in the 50s(?), 60s(?), maybe even into the 70s(?) ... I think they've made SLRs in the past, too. Nothing spectacular in terms of the bodies, IIRC.

No, the Braun with electric shavers is Braun GmbH (http://www.braun.com/global.html), founded in 1921. The cameras are coming from the older Nuremberg based company Braun Photo Technik (http://www.braun-phototechnik.de/E/Products/Default.htm), founded in 1915.

Most interesting part of this post is that Zeiss will set up their own distribution organization for these lenses. I believe they have that here in the US for microscope optics. I heard from a Nikon mircoscope rep who was a former Zeiss rep: "Zeiss is nice at twice the price"

Gotta love that 85 1.5 monster eye though. If they get them to work right, i.e. electronics, on the D70 and D50 cameras, could be a nice combo. Looks like the others are some sort of f/2 and a macro, since there are 1:4, 1:5 markings on the body. They also announced they will make something in M42.

Seems it didn't take them long to get back on their feet after the divorce from Kyocera. I think overall this is a good move for Zeiss. Make lenses that will work with as many mounts as possible even if it is 50 years old design. That gives the greatest market potential.

Interesting times ahead!

At one time Hasselblad was distributed in the US through Braun North America. I then though it was the razor chaps but maybe it was this other company? 😕

From the prices I've seen quoted for the 50/1.4 you could get a Nikkor 50/1.2 for less. Also, remember that will most AI lenses you have no metering on the D50.

Braun used to be in the camera business big time. I'm glad to see them there again.

Braun Movie Cameras were top notch in the 60's.

Braun Paxette RF cameras, and Braun Paxette SLR's. The latter used a mount similar to the Kodak Retina series.
